CIOs and leaders can learn a lot from transformation programs that are in the news and fail to drive consensus and enthusiasm

Last week we witnessed two failed transformations. The first was President Trump's attempts to secure consensus on funding a border wall resulting in him declaring a state of emergency. The second was New York's attempts to address the backlash against its deal with Amazon resulting in Amazon's decision to pull out of the deal.

For the purposes of this article, I ask that you leave your opinions behind these issues aside....

Agile is not a cookie cutter framework or set of practices.

I've been a part of large number of agile organizations some as CTO, some as CIO, and now as President of StarCIO. Although I've reapplied similar agile practices across multiple organizations and teams, none were implemented the exact same way....

Leadership has grown to become a very dynamic word in the business world. A leader has to wear multiple hats in order to keep the organization operating efficiently. And to attain that, he/she must imbibe various sets of skills. One of those skills sets includes knowledge. Knowledge is what differentiates a leader from the rest and helps him/her to grow in the career and Stephanie Atkinson is a perfect example of the same.

In the late spring of 2018, Cape Town South Africa dodged an existential bullet. "Day Zero" - the moment the city's water taps would be turned off due to punishing drought conditions - was postponed, pushed to an indeterminate date in 2019.

Doing any new technology expansion, deployment, or market realization requires more than just saying it. In this case 5G is a global event not seen possibly ever. The reason is that there are so many more "moving parts" than ever before with the outcomes and consequences are equally challenging exhilarating. 5G will take the resources of hundreds of companies and thousands of people both inside and outside to make large scale to small cell applications work and work all the time...

Digitalization of supply chain via ICT technology, management, security and more are of expanding interest to all businesses. In a greater sense, the connection of E2E or everything to everything brings ROI innovation to enterprise-to-enterprise connections. From a small retailer who wants less in-store inventory to delivering custom products on-demand to complex automotive, airplane and military projects with millions of parts having a global view of the supply chain provides greater business success.

Is there a blind spot when it comes to national security with IoT devices? Everyday mundane things like lights bulbs, lights switches, electric meters, refrigerators and other household products are connected to the Internet. They can be equipped with small cameras, recorders and most importantly a means to transmit data to a server or the cloud. In the cloud or edge server, there are natural language processors, machine learning algorithms and translation software to distill the information captured. What if these light bulbs are in the homes and offices of national security advisors, heads of states, leaders of corporations and their every move and conversations are being captured and streamed to Russia or China without even casting the least suspicion?
