Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

We begin our Advent season thinking about the coming of the Messiah and exactly what that means for us. Advent comes from a Latin word, “adventus” which means “coming.” It is a translation of a Greek word, “Parousia” which has been used by the church in reference to the second coming of Jesus.

Advent is a time of deep anticipation. We draw on the hope God gives in fulfilling promises made long ago to send a savior to us. We receive a hope nurtured in the promise that God is so actively working in our world, never giving up on us. We will be looking each week in our worship at the names of the Messiah that come from Isaiah 9:6 --

“For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

We’ll look at what each name speaks to our faith in a personal way and how Jesus exemplified these names in his ministry...

Christmas Wonderland / The Star
On Friday, December 14 , you're invited to bring your family to church for a Christmas Wonderland! We'll have hot cocoa, cookies, pizza, popcorn, Christmas crafts, and Santa and his elves! Spend time together with your church family and watch The Star (PG), a delightful animated movie about the first Christmas. We may not have snow, but we'll have fun!

Sunday Worship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to worship with us at 8, 9:30 or 11 am this Sunday. We celebrate communion this Sunday at all three services, and invite you to bring non-perishable food to donate to UMOM. Look for the blue bins at the campus entrances.

Download your Looking Ahead for this Sunday and see what's on the schedule for this week. We include news and events as well as Prayers of Intercession so you can pray for others. Advent study books are available at Serendipities, our campus gift and book store. Read more about the two book choices and see which Journeys groups will be discussing them.

We are very thankful for our experiences at Change the World Day and will be sharing some photos in worship this Sunday. Thank you for being God's love in action! If you have any photos to share, please email them to paradisevalleyumc@gmail.com and we'll add them to our Google album.

See the website calendar at pvumc.org/calendar for all our children's, youth and adult activities, during the week and all year long.
