Let Asthma Fuel Your Fire, Not Diminish Your Drive

"Rather than viewing it as an insurmountable obstacle, I encourage others to use it as motivation to push even harder."

Describe your asthma journey. What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

I was diagnosed with asthma at a young age. I still remember one night vividly, after a long, active day, my chest suddenly tightened, and I struggled to breathe. Thankfully, my parents rushed me to the hospital, where I received immediate treatment. That moment left a lasting impression on me.

From then on, I made it a priority to strengthen my lungs and improve my overall health. Ironically, or perhaps serendipitously, I discovered a deep passion for track and field. I've always been driven to push my limits, and I refused to let asthma define or restrict me.

Throughout high school, I trained with discipline and determination. My efforts paid off during my senior year when I became the first boy in several years from my school to qualify for the state championships in the long jump. Reaching that milestone was the result of years of perseverance and hard work, a reminder that obstacles can be overcome with the right mindset and commitment.

Do you have any advice for others living with asthma or for those supporting someone with asthma?

My biggest piece of advice for anyone living with asthma is this: don't let it hold you back. Rather than viewing it as an insurmountable obstacle, I encourage others to use it as motivation to push even harder.

Life's greatest challenges often become the foundation of our greatest strengths. Asthma may present difficulties, but it can also serve as a powerful source of drive and determination. Embrace the struggle, and let it galvanize your inner strength.
