Columbus County Bridge Will Be Replaced

FAIR BLUFF – The U.S. 76 bridge over Gapway Swamp near the N.C./S.C. border will be replaced, thanks to a $3.8 million contract awarded last month by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The bridge was built in 1927 and has reached the end of its service life. The project will require U.S. 76 to close while the bridge is replaced. As part of this contract, two secondary roads for the detour route will be resurfaced and improved before the bridge replacement gets underway.

New Bladen County Bridge Under Construction Reaches Milestone

ELIZABETHTOWN – A major milestone in the construction of a new U.S. 701 bridge in Bladen County has recently occurred.

Traffic on the existing bridge has been shifted onto the new bridge being built alongside of it over the Cape Fear River. This permanent shift will allow the NCDOT contractor to begin demolishing the old bridge.

DMV Schedule Changes Begin

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is making changes to increase walk-in availability at its 115 driver license offices in the state.

This month, five more offices will open earlier and scheduled appointments will be limited to morning hours.

Saturday hours and other improvements will also take place later in the summer.

Memorial Day Click It or Ticket Campaign

NCDOT Launches Microtransit Webpage

NCDOT has launched a new webpage dedicated to helping public transit users better understand on-demand microtransit use. Last year, NCDOT and N.C. State University conducted a study to identify challenges with microtransit pilot programs.

Litter Sweep Wrap-Up

NCDOT has collected nearly 3.6 million pounds of litter on the roadsides so far this year. About 623,000 pounds were collected over the two-week Spring Litter Sweep initiative, but we want to remind everyone that litter does not belong on the roads.

We encourage everyone to report littering by using the Swat-A-Litterbug app and to support the effort to beautify our roads during our fall Litter Sweep.
