Christie's Reflections
Dear OneSource Members & Friends,
I’ve been fortunate to see and hear about the transformative power of welcoming functional spaces for nonprofit organizations. Our Common Good Store Furniture Bank exists for that purpose, as a catalyst for nonprofits to thrive by creating work environments that support their people and their missions.
It’s not just about desks and chairs; it’s about ensuring nonprofits have a setting that enable their staff to work comfortably and efficiently. A thoughtfully designed space energizes teams, reinforces an organization’s brand, and creates a welcoming atmosphere for clients and visitors.
The ripple effect of working in a nice office is evident. When hardworking staff feel supported by their surroundings, their energy and focus on delivering impact is strengthened. When clients enter a space that feels professional and inviting, trust and confidence in the organization is established.
Visit our Common Good Store Furniture Bank – here you will find extraordinary furnishings at extraordinary prices – even for the tightest nonprofit budget.
The Furniture Bank is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and the impact of
investing in spaces that matter. Together, let’s build vibrant workspaces that will help
build vibrant communities!
With Gratitude,
Christie

Spotlight On Acts 1:8 Housing:
Passion & Strategic Consulting In Action
| |
Children are the hope of our future. Unfortunately, many face abuse and neglect, requiring removal from their homes to ensure their safety. Acts 1:8 Housing, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit, provides shelter, guidance, and support for these vulnerable children. Specializing in transitioning youth from group homes into healthy family environments, Acts 1:8 Housing is a beacon of hope for young people with nowhere else to turn.
At the heart of the organization is a commitment to empowering youth to become self-sufficient and discover their purpose in life. Acts 1:8 Housing offers spiritual guidance, life skills training, and community engagement opportunities, ensuring that each child builds confidence and achieves their goals. By fostering strong community partnerships, the organization enables youth to give back, reinforcing the cycle of support and upliftment.
Roberta Satterwhite, Founder of Acts 1:8 Housing, is passionate about protecting children. Reflecting on her journey, she shares, “Our mission is to empower individuals to self-sufficiency and harmonize their purpose in life! It is important to Acts 1:8 Housing to break down barriers that the community suffers from and to help build relationships with everyone.” Originally, Roberta’s commitment to at-risk youth led her to open her own home as a group home. She recalls the story of a young man who, despite making poor choices, later reached out to thank her for the life lessons she shared with him. “There is a great need for nonprofit organizations like mine,” she says. However, living the challenges of sustaining such an impactful organization makes her grateful for the resources and support OneSource Center has been able to provide.
In 2024, Acts 1:8 Housing partnered with OneSource Center on a consulting project with the goal of strengthening its leadership and sustainability. Carol Frankenstein, the lead consultant on the project, found the experience incredibly rewarding: “Acts 1:8 Housing helps an underserved population in our community, providing support, structure, and safe harbor for boys who cannot be placed in foster care. The dedication of the Executive Director and board members was truly inspiring.” The project focused on clarifying board roles and responsibilities, developing an orientation program for new board members, and creating a fundraising strategy for 2025. These initiatives will help Acts 1:8 Housing engage and retain board members, ensuring continued success.
Acts 1:8 Housing exemplifies the power of community-driven change. Through its unwavering commitment to at-risk youth, the organization provides not just shelter, but hope, mentorship, and a path toward a better future. Thanks to the support of partners like OneSource Center, Acts 1:8 Housing continues to expand its impact, proving that with faith, dedication, and collaboration, transformation is possible.

Updates to Changes at Federal and State Level
With all the tumultuous news this past week about federal funding and other changes made at the federal level that impacts nonprofits, you may want to sign up for emails from the Human Services Chamber in order to receive timely updates. We are grateful to Mike Moroski for opening up his resources and news to agencies who are not members of the Chamber.

Federal Funding Impact Survey
If you receive federal money of any kind, whether directly from the federal government or as a pass-through via the state, etc. Please take a moment to fill out this survey. The United Way is seeking input on the impact to our community. Things are very murky right now and confusing. Even if federal grants are not frozen, it seems likely that there may be some sort of negative impact on funding in the future.

2024 Nonprofit Employment Report
In December, George Mason University Center for Nonprofits, Philanthropy and Social Enterprise released the 2024 Nonprofit Employment Report. The brief report provides a first look at new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on nonprofit employment and wages between 2018 - 2022, focusing specifically on the 501(c)(3) portion of the nonprofit sector. As of 2022, nonprofits had restored nearly 70% of the more than half-million workforce losses they suffered in 2020—but that left significant ground to cover to get back to the employment levels they enjoyed in 2019 in several key fields, and even further to go to catch up to where the sector’s workforce would have been without those pandemic-era losses.
