Christie's May Reflections:
Creating a Culture Where People Thrive
In the nonprofit world, our missions are powerful—but it’s our people who bring them to life. That’s why building a supportive, affirming workplace culture isn’t a “nice to have”—it’s essential.
When team members feel seen, heard, and appreciated, their passion and creativity shine. They go the extra mile. They stay. They bring their best ideas forward. But let’s be honest: creating that kind of culture isn’t always easy, especially in our sector where resources are tight, workloads are heavy, and burnout is real.
As nonprofit leaders, we’re often wearing a dozen hats—vision-caster, fundraiser, problem-solver, cheerleader. And sometimes, in the rush to keep the mission moving, the human side of leadership can fall by the wayside. But the truth is, a healthy culture doesn’t just happen. It’s built, day by day, with intention and support.
That’s where OneSource comes in. Whether it’s leadership development, coaching, or resources to strengthen your team dynamics, we’re here to help you create the kind of workplace where people don’t just survive—they thrive. Because when we care for our people, we strengthen the mission at every level.
You don’t have to do this alone. Let’s build something better—together.
In Solidarity,
Christie
| | April Self-Care Drawing Winner! | | |
The winner of the $100 Self-Care gift card is Christy Brock, Executive Director and Founder of New Adventures Counseling!
Asked what self-care means to her, Christy says: "To me, self-care is both rebellion and responsibility. As the founder of a nonprofit, I hold space for so many others—but I’ve learned that I can’t pour from an empty cup. Self-care means choosing presence over burnout, restoration over hustle. Sometimes it’s a hike, a deep breath, or a stolen moment of stillness. It’s how I stay grounded in my purpose and continue showing up with compassion, creativity, and courage."
So what kind of Self-Care magic do we have in store next? We are calling it Reboot in the Wild! This will be an opportunity—on a "first social media reply" basis—for nonprofit superstars to pick up (a limited amount!) admission certificates for a restorative outdoor experience. Follow OneSource Center and be among the first to reply to our upcoming self-care social media post for your chance to claim this wonderful opportunity to reboot.

Independence Alliance:
Empowering Lives Through Partnership
| | |
At its heart, Independence Alliance is a champion for people with disabilities—a place where independence isn’t just a goal, but a shared journey. Formerly known as the Center for Independent Living Options, this Cincinnati-based nonprofit has spent nearly five decades guiding individuals toward self-defined goals, helping them live independently, confidently, and with dignity. Their recent name change reflects not only a renewed commitment to the work, but also a deep belief in the power of community: “Independence” for those they serve, and “Alliance” for the network of support they’ve built.
With a service area that spans 15 counties across Ohio and Northern Kentucky, and a team where over half the staff and board are individuals with disabilities themselves, Independence Alliance is grounded in lived experience. They offer a wide range of services—from peer support and skills training to youth transition programs and advocacy—at no cost to consumers. Their impact is undeniable, and their mission is clear: every person with a disability deserves the tools and support to define and pursue their own version of independence.
But like many nonprofits, the road isn’t always easy. Funding challenges, limited staffing, and growing community needs often stretch resources to their limits. That’s where OneSource Center steps in—not just as a vendor or service provider, but as a true partner in mission. Independence Alliance has leaned into the power of OneSource through consulting services, leadership training, and the Common Good Voucher Program. These resources have been game-changers as the organization prepares to launch its 2025–2027 Strategic Plan. With OneSource’s help, they’re building a foundation to grow stronger, lead better, and expand their reach. “Like any non-profit, we strive to operate efficiently with limited resources,” says Rob Festenstein, Executive Director. “Having access to the goods and services of OneSource allows our organization to be better at what we do and serve as many people with disabilities as possible.”
As they look to the future, Independence Alliance sees collaboration as the key to lasting change. “An alliance between nonprofits is a valuable way to support one another and build on our strengths,” Rob shares. Thanks to partnerships with organizations like OneSource Center, that strength continues to grow—lifting up individuals, empowering communities, and making independence more than a possibility.
