Let There Be More Light!

New electrical wiring at a Northeast, D.C home keeps the lights on and the home safe.

Friends,

This month, as the lights of both Hanukah and Christmas illuminate our world, our faith and secular communities are intricately bound together to support those in need.

At Yachad our mission has never been more clear. Close the racial wealth gap and improve the health of D.C residents by stabilizing home ownership for lower income families. We do this by providing no-cost health and safety housing remediation services to ensure a family's health and their ability to build inter-generational wealth for years to come.

We blend resources from large and small donors so that we have the resources to address repairs from roof tops to basements, and all parts in between. We work with city agencies to collaborate on energy efficiencies and electrification opportunities so that our clients have access to new green technologies. We work with renter households to remediate some housing conditions that impact tenants' health due to poor building maintenance.

This past year, more than two dozen homeowners and renter households in Wards 5,7 and 8 received Yachad's home remediation services at a fair market cost of about $240,000. These homes account for more than $5 million in home equity accrued over the years, according to Redfin data and analysis. This means that Yachad’s comprehensive remediation work allows these families to continue living in their homes and to build greater wealth as their houses increase in value.

We welcome and need your support to see that this work can continue and grow without hesitation in these uncertain times. Yachad has always been about building bridges to build equitable communities. We invite you to be part of this effort with a year end donation of $100, $200, $500 or more. On behalf of our staff and board, we wish you a happy holiday season.

Thank you,
