Dear Friends,

Last Sunday, toward the end of my sermon, I shared the following prayer from Mother Teresa. It reflects her transformation. In this time of adjusting to the restrictions of the pandemic, we too are going through transformations as we attempt to live life with faith, hope and love.

“I used to pray that God would feed the hungry, or do this or that, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I’m supposed to do, what I can do. I used to pray for answers, but now I am praying for strength. I used to believe that prayer changes things but now I know that prayer changes us and we change things.”

This is a time of change like we have never known. Last Sunday, I guess I was asking God for help without even realizing it and I heard an answer…a line from the prophet Isaiah:

“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”

Find places of strength to cope with all that you face. And I remind you that spiritual strength can be found each Sunday after our online service. Come to the St Francis garden and receive the Body of Christ, the Bread of Heaven, Communion under Special Circumstances, strength for the journey.

With love and care…
Faithfully,
Please email or text (310-995-6519), Paula+ with your desired reserved time for Sunday Communion. (11, 11:15, 11:30, 11:45). I will reply to confirm.

Be together - 5 days a week, as well as Sundays.
Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.

Military Outreach Success!
We packed 48 boxes to send to our military forces serving overseas. You have no idea how much these gifts are appreciated - both for the items themselves, but possibly even more for the fact that they show we hold them in our hearts and care.
BUT - we have a problem - due to some unexpected generosity we have many more boxes to send than we had budgeted for. We need $300 to help cover the cost of mailing. Can you help? If so, please contact Susie Zimmerman .
And thank you!
The Bellringer
At the current time, we're not creating issues of this, but we'd still love to hear from you. If you have any updates or items you would have submitted for publication in normal times, send them along to Susan and we will publish them in this enews instead!
An Invitation to Learn - Update!
By The Rev. Jude Lyons

I have been overwhelmed of late with all the racism resources that appear in my email in-boxes, on social media, on websites, and on screens of all kinds. Perhaps you are overwhelmed too. It is so hard to choose what to focus on or even what to learn from. But, I continue to try to sort it out, and I continue to watch documentaries! Here an interview from the Episcopal News Service as well as a Diocesan letter from Bishop Diane. I am continuing to gather more materials from the Episcopal Church because I trust them and because they offer varying types of information and levels of engagement.
We will soon have a page on our website to gather all the materials I find so that all who wish to can have access to them.
