Spring is a time of growth and new beginnings, and at Wee Watch, we are excited to nurture your little ones’ curiosity through engaging activities, outdoor play, and meaningful learning experiences. In this newsletter, we’ll share tips on making the most of the spring season, exciting program updates. Our Together Wee Can programming is focused on cognitive development in both March and April. We start with a focus on math and then move to language skills in April. A reminder that this program is based on ideas shared by our amazing childcare Providers!

Celebrating Family: Meaningful Ways to Connect During March Break

March break is the perfect time to step away from the busy routines of work and school and focus on what really matters—spending quality time with family. Whether you’re planning a getaway or enjoying a staycation at home, there are many ways to create meaningful connections with your loved ones this season.

March break is a great opportunity to explore new places together. If you have the time and resources, consider planning a day trip to a nearby park, museum, or nature reserve. Explore the outdoors with a scenic hike, or a visit to the zoo. These experiences provide a chance to bond over shared discoveries and create lasting memories. If traveling far isn’t an option, a “staycation” in your own city can also offer plenty of opportunities for fun and exploration. Try out new restaurants, check out local events, or revisit favourite spots that you haven’t had time to enjoy recently.

For those days when you want to stay indoors or the weather isn’t cooperating, crafting together is a wonderful way to spend time as a family. From painting and drawing to making homemade cards or creating a family scrapbook, crafts allow everyone to unleash their creativity. You can organize a cozy family movie marathon with popcorn, blankets and all your favourite films. You can host a family game night with board games, card games or interactive video games that everyone can enjoy. Games not only bring out friendly competition, but they also teach important skills like teamwork, strategy and problem solving.

Cooking together is also a great activity for when the weather isn’t ideal and can be both fun and educational for children. Get everyone involved by preparing a family meal, baking treats, or making a themed dinner night. Not only will you teach children valuable cooking skills, but you’ll also enjoy the fruits of your labour together as a family. Consider trying out new recipes or letting each family member choose a dish to prepare. If you have older children, involve them in meal planning, shopping for ingredients, and setting the table. This collaborative effort not only fosters teamwork but also encourages everyone to appreciate the work that goes into making a meal.

Spending time outdoors is essential for both physical and mental well-being, especially as we embrace the last of the winter season in southern Ontario. Use March Break as an opportunity to reconnect with nature and enjoy some fun outdoor winter activities. Head out for a family-friendly snowshoeing or cross-country skiing adventure, take a scenic winter hike, or try ice skating at one of the many local rinks. If you're near a hill, grab a sled and enjoy some tobogganing!

While you’re outside, observe the winter landscape—look for animal tracks in the snow, identify the trees and plants that thrive in colder months, or catch sight of winter birds. Even a nature scavenger hunt can be a great way to engage children with the natural world, combining fun and education while making the most of the snowy season!

No matter how you choose to spend March Break, the most important thing is being present with your loved ones. Use this time to reconnect, build new traditions, and create memories that will last long after the season ends. By making time for family bonding, you’ll not only strengthen your relationships but also provide your children with meaningful experiences they’ll cherish for years to come.

Wishing you all a fun-filled and unforgettable March Break!

Together Wee Can - A Provider Takeover

Each year Wee Watch organizes exclusive and educational events and activities around a theme that all Providers across Ontario participate in called "Together Wee Can".

Our Together Wee Can program is carefully thought out and planned with our Providers and children in mind. With a network of 1,400+ Providers, we thought why not go straight to the source, ask the experts, our Providers!

We wanted to collaborate to develop this year’s program, a program for our homes, created with our Providers. This year’s program, “Together Wee Can 2025 – A Provider Takeover”, is a compilation of some of our Providers favourite activities, activities their children love, encompassing all areas of development – fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, language/speech, social/emotional, sensory, and imaginative.

Take a look at what's coming up in our homes...

In March we will be focusing on Cognitive development, and more specifically, cognitive math skills development. Cognitive development is the development of knowledge, skills, and

problem-solving capabilities, all of which help children understand the world around them.

This month we will be focusing on Speech and Language development.Early focus on speech and language development helps children build a strong foundation for literacy, for making sense of visual and verbal signs around them, and for reading and writing.

Kids Can Cook

Cooking with kids isn't just about recipes, it can be a delicious learning experience for everyone! Cooking encourages literacy skills, harnesses imagination, empowerment, and creativity.
