It's Block Blitz Time - This Friday, 9/16

We've learned so much already in our Block Blitz target area this year and our crazy, little 300+ volunteer event hasn't even happened yet. We've learned that not one person who lives in, or grew up in, the Salt Springs/Le Moyne College neighborhood calls our Block Blitz Kick Off location Homer Wheaton Park (Homer Wheaton was a real person!). It's Mountainview Park for us in the know.

We've also learned that some of the nicest people live in the neighborhood, like the very nice and prepared homeowner pictured above who has been having someone prep her porch for weeks in anticipation of volunteers painting. Most importantly, we've discovered that many neighborhood residents who have worked hard to keep up their beautiful homes are now beginning to need a little extra hand getting some things done. So thank you to each and every one of our 300+ volunteers who have signed up to come out this Friday, no matter what the job or weather, to lend a hand. And thanks to those that donated to help make this day possible--from porta-potties (thanks MS Unlimited) to a crazy amount of supplies (thanks Home Depot) to an amazing neighborhood asset (no matter what we call it) and accessible, smart and friendly staff (thanks City of Syracuse Parks), to offering a project site for 75 CNS High School Kids (thanks HMR Property Management) oh, and for providing a little lunch for a few hundred new friends (thanks Le Moyne College)!

Block Blitz Day By the Numbers

9:00am - (is this really a number?) Block Blitz kick off at 9:00am sharp in Homer Wheaton/Mountainview park. All volunteer teams can register before or after remarks by Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, Le Moyne College President Linda LeMura and HHQ CEO Kerry Quaglia. Tools and more are available immediately after kick off.

70,000 - The City of Syracuse Parks Department, Onondaga Earth Corps, the Syracuse Parks Conservancy, and others are working together to help plant 70,000 trees by 2040 in the City of Syracuse. Salt Springs Residents are welcome to visit the Park from 10am-2pm on Friday and learn about flowering trees, fruit trees and shade trees and pick up a free tree! Reserve your tree today! 155 - Weather permitting, there's going to be a whole lot of driveway sealing going on! 155 5-gallon buckets of driveway sealer are ready and waiting for our many driveway sealing teams (We especially like the girls from HHQ affiliate Homsite that drive in from Auburn to take on some of these driveway every year!)

60 - Volunteers are touching 60 properties, spread out between the Park and Le Moyne College, on Friday throughout our largest area yet--some are as simple as spreading mulch and some are getting fully painted or more! Bring a bike, a scooter or call an uber to get between all of the day's locations.

48.8 Million - That's the number of people that Pickleball worldwide, a 40% increase over the last two years, according to this article. The Le Moyne College Women's Lacrosse team with help from E-Z Paving Companies and the CNY Pickleball Association, will be working to add a court to the existing tennis courts at the Park.
