Welcome to UC San Diego! The International Students & Programs Office (ISPO) is excited to welcome you to campus very soon. We are here to help you navigate the ins and outs of your program as an undergraduate student. Let's get started!
ISPO Services During Coronavirus &
Remote Learning for Fall 2020
Despite the global challenges caused by COVID-19, UC San Diego is very pleased to offer remote learning so that first-year, undergraduate non-resident students, can still start their journey as part of the Triton Family and join their cohort in Fall 2020. Even if students cannot be physically on campus, they can still start in the Fall and begin progress toward their degree.
If you plan to take all of your classes remotely for Fall 2020 outside the United States, then you do not require an I-20 (F-1) or DS-2019(J-1) for the fall. However, you will still need one for Winter 2021 if you plan to arrive then to begin your classes in person. ISPO is working diligently on providing a request option via the iPortalso that you can specify which quarter you will need an I-20/DS-2019 for. Please continue to check your email and inewstudent.ucsd.edu for further information soon.
This comprehensive site is designed just for new international students to understand that different steps you need to follow before you arrive! Go to iNewStudent.ucsd.edu now and click on Undergraduate Students.
Request Your Visa Documents
The iNewStudent.ucsd.edu page will explain the steps of applying for your I-20 (for the F-1 visa) or your DS-2019 (for the J-1 visa) through the iPortal. The deadline to apply for this document is August 1, 2020.
NOTE! To access iPortal and any other UCSD Single Sign-On (SSO) system, you will need to install the Duo Mobile App on your mobile phone to accommodate the verification process for this system. If you encounter access issues, use the contact information at the bottom of the instruction pagefor resolution.
NOTE: Though Immigration and Customs Enforcement released guidelines allowing the issuance of electronic I-20s, further clarification of these guidelines established that this only applies to certain situations. Use of an original I-20 and DS-2019 is required for both visa issuance and for international travel.
However, in order to help you book your visa appointment more quickly, ISPO can email you your SEVIS ID prior to sending your document to enable you to do this. If you would like this emailed to you, please make a note of this in your iPortal application or firstname.lastname@example.org.
