Here Comes 2023!

Reflecting on 2022, Moving Forward Together

As 2022 winds down, we want to reflect on some of the highlights as we pursued our mission to accelerate cures for kidney cancer:

  • Awareness: KidneyCAN hosted three patient-focused Town Hall events, two Facebook Live webinars, and participated in many other educational events to help patients and caregivers connect to support and resources. The Patient Resource Center on our website now includes extensive support for those facing diagnosis, building a care team, weighing treatment options, seeking a clinical trial, and living with kidney cancer.

  • Advocacy: With support from our partners, KidneyCAN sent 345 advocates to 390 meetings with Congressional offices to discuss the need for research funding.

Learn more about our 2022 accomplishments here.

As we close 2022, please consider donating to support our mission. Your year-end gift fuels our work and brings us closer to cures for kidney cancer.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Kidney Cancer Research News:

The Latest Breakthroughs That Could Improve Kidney Cancer Treatment

Time magazine recently featured two articles focused on kidney cancer. The first reviewed some of the latest research breakthroughs, including immunology and HIF-2α inhibitors.

MD Anderson’s Dr. Nizar Tannir says, “There is more hope than ever for patients to have improved survival, and even a complete and durable remission with the potential for cure.”

The second article features leading researchers discussing the landscape of clinical trials for kidney cancer.

"Clinical trials are also used to vet the effectiveness of new surgical techniques, new diagnostic procedures, and anything else that could improve the lives of people with kidney cancer. While some trials break new ground, others examine small changes to the existing standards of care—such as adjusting the dose of a drug up or down, or changing the way treatment side-effects are managed. In all cases, a trial’s results help shape the way every person who develops kidney cancer is treated, and so their importance cannot be overstated."

Do your research. Ask questions, and be your own advocate! I learned that from Phyllis, and have applied it to to my own challenges not related to cancer.
