Let's Never Forget

The City of Fairfield recognizes September 1st. as Matt Garcia Day.

On September 1st, 2008, Fairfield City Councilman,

Matt Garcia, was murdered.

Honor and Remember

September 11, 2023, marks the 22nd Anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks on the United States of America. New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. were all targeted on that fateful day.  Four airlines were hijacked and crashed, resulting in more than 3,000 innocent people losing their lives, including the loss of many heroic emergency responders.

Let’s not take our freedom for granted in this wonderful Country. Life is short, and hate should not have a place in our society. It is our responsibility to help make our world a better, friendlier, and safer place for everyone regardless of religion, race or gender.

Free Food for Students to Take Home

As we get back to the school groove, I wanted to let you know that the PAL Food Pantry, made possible thanks to the Solano Food Bank and Kaiser, is open!

ANY local middle or high school student can visit the food pantry and pick up items to take home. You can see a quick clip of what a student’s basket might look like here

The panty is open for “Stop & Shop” hours on Tuesdays between 5pm and 7pm. However, if you have a student who needs a special visit, please let us know.

September is National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness month was launched in the U.S., by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in 2004, with the goal of motivating citizens to become better prepared for emergencies and disasters. Their motto is “Don’t wait, communicate, make a plan today.”

The four main steps toward becoming prepared for a disaster are:

1.   Learn the risks most likely to occur in your area

2.   Make a plan

3.   Build a supply kit

4.   Get involved with your community’s disaster preparedness programs

Small Acts of Kindness

“EVEN THE SMALLEST ACT OF SERVICE, THE SIMPLEST ACT OF KINDNESS,

IS A WAY TO HONOR THOSE WE LOST, A WAY TO RECLAIM

THAT SPIRIT OF UNITY THAT FOLLOWED 9/11.”

- President Barack Obama

“Kindness is the language which the hard of hearing can hear and the visually impaired can see.” - Mark Twain

Almost 8 billion people walk the earth, each uniquely different and yet the same. All of us moving on this journey called life. Being kind to one another, then becomes a powerful impetus. Kindness a universal belief of all religions, a language understood by every living creature. It demands no expenditure of time or material, nor dictates a grand gesture. An offering of a simple smile, a kind word, an understanding ear, a meal to one who maybe hungry, a coat to one who is cold, standing up for the defenseless, a prayer for the one climbing through life’s obstacles. It is looking for the good in others. Even when it is inconvenient. Simply put it is making one’s day better, brighten it even if for a moment. It is to remind ourselves and others, it’s the little things in life that turn out to matter the most. A reminder that we are all connected.

Neuroscience has shown us kindness the greatest source of endorphin release - the feel-good chemicals. In bestowing kindness on another we are awarded with chemicals that boost our well-being and happiness. A small way each one of us can spread happiness. To others and to ourselves. Rekindle faith in our shared humanity. While individually this act of kindness may not ping off any significance, I believe collectively we can heal together. An just maybe the world within and around us.

Everyday we learn something new. Take life as a test and shoot for a better score each day… It doesn’t have to be an “A” the next day,
but let’s hope it improves.
