The Spring 2018 season is here and so are the new 2018 Handbooks which started arriving in home mailboxes last week.  We hope you'll find them easy to use as a match day reference.

If your mailing address has changed or you did not receive a handbook in the mail, go to the TCD website Forms to " Corrections/Changes" to provide us with a current address.

Many thanks to both our 2017 and 2018 Membership and Awards Directors (Adrienne Bransky and Misty Scott) who led this project to transition from our printed directory to a handbook! Please send us an email to let us know what you think.

TCD is an organization of volunteers and we're always interested in finding people who are willing to serve on a committee, as a flight coordinator or other opportunities. If you have questions or want more information, please contact any board member, or send in a volunteer form.

I hope everyone has a fun and competitive season and please share those great sportsmanship examples!
Anne Gannon, TCD Presiding Director

The Ladies Tournament last Thursday was successful on all fronts.  Book-ended by cold, rainy days, the weather on the day of the tournament was a pleasant temperature and no rain- whew!

C lose to 1,100 tournament participants enjoyed playing some friendly, competitive tennis, and were treated to lots of great tournament prizes this season!

Thank you to our dynamic Tournament Director, Shannon Caruthers.  You and your hardworking Tournament Committee and Site Coordinators organized an amazing event for our members!  Pictures from the tournament, including photos of the various winners can be viewed on our TCD Facebook Group 2018 Spring Tournament Album

Attention Love-50 players!
ALL LOVE-50 TEAMS will test using the match tiebreak (first to 10 points by 2) in lieu of a full 3rd set this spring. After the season ends, we'll get feedback and suggestions from captains, players and facilities, and decide on our next steps.

Please consult with your Captain, Flight Coordinator, or me with any questions!

On behalf of TCD, the 2017 Board made contributions to several organizations that offer tennis events and activities which serve people in the Dallas area.

Here are some thank you notes we would like to share with our members from:
TCD had the privilege of contributing to the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation in 2017.

As Cindy Brinker Simmons shares:
"So many of our deserving players, who are completely dedicated to excelling in this sport, would not be able to travel to our national and international "Little Mo" tournaments without these travel grants... players like remarkable 10-year-old Akasha Urhobo from Lauderhill, Florida.(pictured)"
Please read Cindy's letter, plus more about Akasha here!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of MCB.  Please join for the celebration at the "Little Mo" Texas Sectionals (ages 8-12) at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington from April 14-15.

Congratulations to Cindy Brinker Simmons who is the 2017 recipient of the Nancy P. Jeffett Lifetime Achievement Award.  This distinguished award was presented to Cindy on January 29 by the Dallas Tennis Association at the 20th annual RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas at T Bar M Racquet Club.
The award recognizes an individual whose accomplishments have been of service to the Dallas tennis community for more than 20 years.

Cindy's devotion to tennis runs deep.  She is the daughter of the late great tennis champion Maureen "Little Mo" Connolly Brinker.  She competed on the junior tennis circuit, consistently being ranked number one in her age group in Texas and in the top 10-20 nationally.  She played the number one spot on the women's tennis team at the University of Virginia and was captain her fourth year.  Cindy volunteered in helping MCB organize and operate the popular Virginia Slims of Dallas women's professional tennis tournament until the foundation sold it in 1990.  She was elected president of MCB in 2007.

We hope many of you can enjoy this local tournament:
