WCINYP Celebrates Black History Month!
This month (and every month, really) we honor Black History Month and its importance and impact!❤️💚🖤

This year's theme for Black History Month is: "African Americans and the Arts."

The resistance lives on even into the 21st century. The Black community continues to mobilize resources and shape social movements with resilience to create a safe space to thrive. This month, we take the time to explore the histories of Black freedom movements—from slavery and abolition to other ongoing struggles for civil and human rights.

As always, with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) (shout-out to our very own Diversity and Inclusion Program) becoming more mainstream in the workplace, celebrating Black History to the fullest is a must! Every employee needs to know they are appreciated, seen, cared about, listened to, and represented.

Here are a few ways you can observe Black History Month (both in & out of the office):

1. Visit a museum/Exhibit

Get out there and see first-hand the American nation's collective historical treasures, or check out this virtual festival! Check out these FREE informative and culturally enriched exhibits by NYC Parks!

2. 👋🏾Hey Practice managers & specialists! Encourage Employees To Learn About Black History at your site

Show your team the many contributions that black people have made to America, and encourage them to learn more. You can find out the story behind how Black History Month came to be and listen to a collection of some of NPR's best podcast episodes and features from across the Black experience in these NPR podcasts!

3. Support Black-Founded Businesses In Your Community

Supporting local black-owned shops makes an impact on others’ lives as well and acknowledges the power of diversity in your community! Here is a list of amazing Black-owned businesses to support in all 5 boroughs of NYC.

4. Donate

Your monetary contribution can help fund programs and pay for legal costs and salaries that keep Black organizations and charities afloat! Look into this list of Black charities here!
Are You Ready For CHEQueR Happy Hour?
CHEQueR is here!

As mentioned in previous newsletters, our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion department is launched CHEQueR last year as a part of an important initiative to foster a more inclusive and supportive workplace for all colleagues.

DEI takes great pride in embracing diversity and strives to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, and have been delighted to introduce the Cornell Highlights Equity for Queers in Radiology (CHEQueR) Group. CHEQueR is designed to provide a safe and inclusive space for our LGBTQIA+ colleagues and their allies, offering a range of resources, support, and educational opportunities. The program aims to promote understanding and empathy while empowering our LGBTQIA+ community members and their allies.

CHEQueR is hosting an upcoming Happy Hour event, where all participants are encouraged to come together and socialize in a supportive and inclusive space!

Love Your Heart: Celebrating Heart Health Month!
Give your heart some TLC, it deserves it. ❤️

Your heart is a tireless engine, pumping blood throughout your body to keep you alive and thriving.

But just like any engine, it needs regular care and maintenance to run smoothly. February is American Heart Month, so let's talk about some easy tips you can incorporate into your daily life to keep your heart happy and healthy!

Small changes, big impact: your heart health journey starts now with these tips below!

Move Your Body.

  • Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week. Think walking, swimming, dancing, cycling, or anything you enjoy that gets your heart rate up.

Fuel Up Right.

  • Choose a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Limit saturated and trans fats, added sugar, and salt.

Don't Forget the Zzz's.

  • Establish a relaxing bedtime routine, create a sleep-conducive environment, and limit screen time before bed.

Manage Stress.

  • Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your heart health. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises or connecting with loved ones.

Schedule Regular Checkups.

  • Don't wait until you feel unwell to see your doctor. Regular checkups allow for early detection and treatment of potential heart problems.
