Kissimmee Gateway Airport Partners with

Operation Airdrop to Provide Hurricane Relief

We are proud to be working with the amazing team at Operation Airdrop to deliver supplies to areas of Florida affected by Hurricane Ian. Operation Airdrop is a group of volunteer pilots who use their aircraft to make deliveries in areas affected by a disaster. Operation Airdrop set up operations at Kissimmee Airport in the offices of Signature Flight Support located at 201 Dyer Blvd. They need your help to bring relief to survivors of the hurricane.

With over 75 aircraft operating from our airport for this relief effort, their goal is to aid as many first responders, essential personnel, and affected residents in Southwest Florida areas with essential life-saving supplies. They are encouraging people to donate items to be delivered to the Pine Island and Fort Myers areas. The donations can be brought to the Signature Flight Support offices. The Operation Airdrop team is specifically looking for baby diapers, baby formula, and wipes. Click below to learn how you can help support this effort!

UAT Adds Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatross Jet To Its Fleet

Unusual Attitude Training (UAT), a division of Stallion 51 Flight Operations at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport (KISM), has added a second Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatross jet to its fleet of upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT) aircraft. The second high-performance L-39 jet will be used to meet the growing demand for private, business, and military pilots to receive specialized unusual attitude upset and recovery training.

“Simulators are good but not everything in the aircraft can be accurately simulated,” said Stallion 51's President and CEO Lee Lauderback. “That’s why the UAT upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT) has become so popular with pilots flying everything from high-performance single engine aircraft to state-of-the art corporate jets. Pilots need to be knowledgeable to recognize a pending upset and use the proper recovery techniques before it becomes potentially dangerous or unrecoverable.”

“When confronted with a crisis, you will not rise to the occasion; you will descend to the level of your training,” he added. Lauderback said that the program’s growing popularity is the reason they’ve now added the second specially outfitted L-39 to their training program in Kissimmee, Florida.  Click HERE to learn more!

FDOT Grant to Fund Development of Dyer Business Airpark at Kissimmee Gateway Airport

The Kissimmee Gateway Airport has received a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) financial grant to develop an 8-acre parcel located near Dyer Blvd. and M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. intersection. The project will design and prepare for horizontal construction to support automobile parking, utility access, aircraft parking ramp and the taxiway connection to support aviation businesses. A preliminary development concept was prepared for the grant application (attached).

An agreement was signed between the City of Kissimmee and AVCON, Inc. to provide the design services. The total cost of the project will not exceed $560,000.00. The FDOT grant participation is at $448,000.00 (80%) with the airport’s local share remaining at $112,000.00 (20%). A project kickoff meeting was held in June and design completion is expected by early summer 2023.
