"Increasing Mobility & Access to Your Worksite"
Wednesday, September 13th, 8:15-10:00 AM
Please join t he Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce , Merrimack Valley Planning Commission , and the Merrimack Valley TMA  for a free breakfast forum to learn more about transportation challenges in the upper Merrimack Valley that impact your company and how we can create collaborative solutions.  This event is  being held in conjunction with the Merrimack Valley Chamber's annual fall Business Expo  and is designed to provide an opportunity to learn from each other about the specific challenges you face in order to identify and develop opportunities for collaborative solutions. You will drive the discussion. A few things to consider:
  • From what communities do you typically recruit employees?
  • What are the transportation limitations that are contributing to recruitment, retention, and growing the workforce at your company?
  • Are there ancillary barriers to transportation access for employees - language, cultural preference, financial constraints, internships?
  • Have you implemented a transportation solution - was it successful?
We are looking to identify opportunities to work together to improve access to your worksite for employees! Come prepared to join the dialogue. More info and registration details here

Gov. Dukakis, Mayor Driscoll, Rep.Moulton Host North/South Rail Link Town Hall in Salem
The North South Rail Link (NSRL) Working Group Chairman, Former Governor Michael S. Dukakis along with Mayor Kim Driscoll and the Office of Congressman Seth Moulton, hosted a standing room only crowd for a NSRL Town Hall Meeting on July 31 at the Salem Town Hall Annex.
Those attending the meeting were extremely supportive of the project.  Tom Girsh, National Association of Railroad Passengers stated "The more we interconnect our communities and the region, the more people will be on transit." Salem Mayor Kimberley Driscoll told the group "We need to think boldly! Roads that are less clogged will open up economic opportunity for residents and employees."

The NSRL would involve a 2.8-mile tunnel connecting North Station and South Station in Boston and allow for more efficient commuter rail service, provide commuters with better train schedules, and vastly expand regional rail service accessibility throughout Massachusetts and the Northeast Corridor.  Additionally, the NSRL would integrate the Haverhill and other North Station-based lines to the other half of the state and completely integrate our commuter rail system to our subway system, while significantly reducing commute times and eliminating 55,000 cars off the road.
