When I was in college I took 'Religions of the World.'
I was absolutely smitten and fascinated by this course.
I grew up Christian (Lutheran) and hadn't thought to investigate other religions. Actually, I was upset that my childhood church never shared
about other Faiths. There is so much beauty, inspiration,
and over-lapping truth in the major religions of our world.
Being in this class opened my mind to new ideas and more questions.
Mostly it opened my heart and curiosity to people of all Faiths.
Hearing about Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and more,
I saw how what we are steeped in and exposed to forms our beliefs.
So because I grew up in a Christian household, I took on those beliefs.
This made the idea of becoming a 'seeker' intriguing and I started on my quest. I stuck with New Thought / Ancient Wisdom Teachings and
did my best to verify anything I was learning. I took classes, attended services, made new friends, volunteered, and eventually even taught
a few classes at a variety of churches along my 'seeking' journey.
This is what I have come to understand:
1) There are many beautiful paths to God
2) Spirituality is a personal journey and exploring all is encouraged.
3) A variation of the 'Golden Rule' ('Do unto others as you would have done unto you' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself') is in all major religions.
4) Compassion & Service are key (see my December SOUL News)
5) God is Love... therefore, you, me and everyone is Love.
My Religion is Love... in action... every day and every way
With myself, and with everyone I meet,
in everything I am and do.
I love you!
