LET'S TALK ABOUT SPORTS!

Let’s talk, read, and sing about SPORTS! Build healthy habits as a family by spending time playing together outdoors. Use any ball at home and let your child make up the rules. Fun outdoor activities like this provide opportunities for your child to boost their creative thinking! It’s also a wonderful way to bond and spend quality time together as a family.

Activities

Let’s talk about SPORTS! Practice sports skills with your little one by setting up a simple, fun obstacle course! Include activities like kicking a ball, shooting a basket, and tossing and catching a bean bag. Set a timer and see how fast each of you can complete the course! This is an excellent way to help develop coordination and strengthen your child’s gross motor skills.

The Science of Angles: Learn Through Sports

PBS Kids for Parents

"Take the court with retired NBA star and current basketball analyst Kendall Gill to learn about the science of the perfect shot. We use angles every day – to build ramps and slides, steer a car, shoot basketballs, throw baseballs, and kick soccer balls. In fact, the science of angles is in almost every sport we play and every movement we make, so go out and play a game with your kids."

WHY TALKING IS TEACHING

Parenting as a Process

Talking is Teaching

Every parent experiences both challenges and joy with their young children. Parenting young children is hard work! Very young children can’t communicate like adults, and it can be difficult to understand what they need. Many parents struggle through the challenges and feel like they aren’t doing a good enough job, especially if they themselves had a tough time as children.

The good news is that you don’t need to know all the answers in order to be a good parent. In fact, it may help to think of parenting as a process through which you’re learning new things all the time. And just like learning anything new, the more you practice, the better you get.

There are simple things you can do to improve the connection with your child that will help you feel better, too. For example, doing things like talking, reading and singing with your child bring you closer together, and teaches them important social-emotional skills that will boost their ability to learn and improve their relationships with others.
