Wherever life plants you, bloom with grace
|
|
Spring has sprung! The flowers have begun to bloom, and the buds on the trees ready to sprout. Oh what a magnificent time of year, when what was dull and quiet is now becoming vibrant and filled with song. Waking to the birds chirping and the beautiful sunrises, and days feeling longer has been such a nice change from the winter hibernation. Take time to notice the beauty that is all around you, finding gratitude with each new day. Through the cold, dreary days comes growth and color. For without one we could not appreciate the other!
Mantra: I am opening to a new way of being

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Being a mom of two wonderful boys! I am so grateful to be their mom and that I am getting to watch them grow into wonderful young men.
What do you most love about teaching yoga?
I love sharing the gift that yoga has given me. Yoga teaches us self-love, self-respect, contentment, gratitude, etc. It teaches us that body, mind and spirit are not disconnected. Yoga meets us where we are and truly is for every body!
What is your favorite yoga pose?
It's so hard to pick one! I think I'd have to go with child's pose. It just feels like such a safe space to rest in. I heard once that pausing in child's pose during your practice is not a sign of weakness but rather knowing and honoring your body. I love that and it has really stuck with me over the years.

Meditation is a way to encourage a heightened state of awareness & focused attention. It is a practice to help the fluctuations of the mind. It doesn't mean that your thoughts will cease, but as you keep at it, you will be able to observe the thoughts as they float by instead of focusing on them intently. Below are just a few of the many benefits that can be realized with a consistent meditation practice.
|
|
|
- Manage stress & anxiety
- Increase self-awareness
- Improve focus
- Promote emotional health
- Increase memory
- Support creativity
- Improve sleep
- Decrease blood pressure
- Promotes self-discipline
- Supports a positive mood

The beauty of meditation is that you can do it anytime and anywhere. It is a practice that is always available to you. The key is finding what works best for you to develop a consistent practice, as with anything the more you do something the better you get at it. There are different meditation techniques, which include, but are not limited to: seated, candle gazing, walking, guided, and breath awareness.
To start find an easy seat on the floor or a chair. Sitting up nice and tall to elongate the spine, and resting the hands either palms up (receiving) or down (grounding) on the legs. Closing the eyes or softening the gaze downward. Begin to focus on the breath - tuning in to each of the inhales and exhales. Allow the thought waves (vritti) to flow by, using the breath to guide you back to the present moment. Become the observer, noticing what shows up for you as you take part in this practice - thoughts, emotions, sensations in the body. Continue to be still, allowing the breath to be your guide. When you are ready to conclude your meditation practice, bring the hands to heart center and slowly open your eyes. Take a big deep inhale through the nose, and exhale it all out through the mouth. As you create your meditation practice, you may choose to chant OM at the end, or whatever you feel called to do to close your practice.
Starting out in your meditation practice, you may wish to set a timer. You can begin with 1-2 minutes and build from there. This is a great way to ease into the practice, as it can feel overwhelming and sometimes uncomfortable at first to sit in silence with no distractions. Remember to make this your practice, whatever works best for you.
