Exelon Foundation STEM Academy Scholarship Recipients!
Congratulations to our Exelon Foundation 2023 Scholars!
On behalf of the Exelon Foundation STEM Academy, we would like to say congratulations to our 6 amazing scholarship recipients this year!

Each year The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy Team works to encourage our participants to pursue higher education in STEM. The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy Scholarship is a supportive and clear pathway from student engagement in The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy to entry into the energy workforce, ideally as an Exelon employee.  This capstone offering of a post-secondary scholarship opportunity to our Exelon Foundation STEM Academy alumnae supports students with a scholarship to a two or four year educational institution.
Celebrate our Summer Interns!
Teegan Mathey
I attended The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy in the summer of 2019. Through the experience of attending the STEM Academy, I grew my knowledge on energy, built my network and made lifelong friends. While the academy was a week of fun on its own, it seems now that the most valuable experiences I gained from the program didn’t happen until long after the conclusion of the week.

Through the network I built from the program, I was able to land my first internship with ComEd in the summer of 2020 while still in high school. I was able to learn more about the company and solidify my career goals before even entering college. I later participated in mentorship programs offered to alumni of the STEM Academy and received guidance from inspirational leaders in the energy field.

In 2021, I was honored to be part of the first cohort of young women to be named as Exelon Foundation STEM Academy Scholars. This opportunity has been the biggest blessing in my college career. Without the financial pressure of paying for school, I have been able to fully immerse myself into a variety of activities on campus. I am now a rising junior at The University of Alabama, majoring in Environmental Science on an accelerated MBA path. Since starting at The University of Alabama in the fall of 2021, I have attempted to get as involved as possible. I joined Greek life where I have held over eight different positions of leadership in my sorority, as well as a position on the judicial board of Alabama’s Panhellenic Council. I joined Environmental Council where I currently serve as Director of Outreach. I am a member of University Stewards where I accompany prospective students and their families to lunch while they are on their official visits to answer any questions they may have. As an ambassador of my STEM to MBA Program, I also interact with students and their families interested in the program when they tour the school.
Stay tuned for more features of STEM Academy interns this summer!
However, perhaps my favorite involvement of all has been my experiences within the Student Government Association. As Deputy Director of Environmental Affairs last year, I was able to assist in successfully facilitating the first ‘Green Week’ on campus since the pandemic. I also helped to facilitate a post-football game recycling initiative where we collected thousands of recyclables from the student seating section and prevented these items from heading to a landfill. I also designed six different campaigns to encourage freshman in the residence hall to conserve energy.

In April of this year, I was appointed as the new Director of Environmental Affairs for the Student Government Association. In this position, I serve on the Executive Cabinet in SGA, directly below the SGA President. Through this role, I launched the first annual “Another Person’s Treasure” drive, collecting specific items from freshmen in the residential halls and facilitating donations of these items to a variety of nonprofits across Tuscaloosa. The initiative aimed to decrease the waste footprint of the university while supporting the Tuscaloosa community. Throughout finals week, the Student Government Association successfully facilitated donations of over 1,500 blankets, towels, and sheets to Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, hundreds of school supply items to Tuscaloosa County Schools, and hundreds of dorm decor items to Tuscaloosa Habitat for Humanity. The school supplies items included notebooks, folders, binders, pencils, paper, desk and drawer organizational items, and more. The dorm decor items included frames, art, shelving, lamps, curtains, mirrors, and more.

Without the experience of The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy, and the incredible team of friends and supporters I have gained as a result, I would not be where I am today. As I start my third internship with ComEd this summer, I sit back to reflect on how one week completely changed the trajectory of my future. The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy wants to see you succeed. Exelon wants YOU to become immersed in the field of energy and one day, to join the company as a full time employee. Make the connections, absorb the information, and have SO much fun at The Exelon Foundation STEM Academies this summer! You’re joining the most supportive team, and I’m so excited to be your new teammate.

BGE Holds Annual PeakRewards℠ Event to Prepare for Summer
BGE held its annual preseason test cycling event earlier last month on the central air conditioners of customers who voluntarily enrolled in the BGE PeakRewards programs. PeakRewards participants receive bill credits of up to $100 during cycling season for allowing BGE to cycle their central air conditioners during periods of peak electricity usage.

The more than 300,000 customers who participate in PeakRewards help reduce the likelihood of power outages when electricity use is highest—normally summer days with extreme temperatures. Click below to learn more about PeakRewards and it's benefits!
The Perfect Storm: ComEd’s Operation Power Play
Have you ever wondered how ComEd prepares for severe weather and power-related events? As part of its commitment to keeping customers connected during any type of emergency, ComEd coordinated a unique, statewide emergency exercise event called Operation Power Play (OPP) —the only statewide drill developed and led by an electric company in the U.S.
