Ramadan Mubarak!

This April, Gulf for Good invites you to reflect and embrace the spirit of Ramadan through charitable giving. The Holy month for those who observe it, is all about the humbling endeavour in gaining perspective of human sufferings through the act of fasting from sunrise to sunset. Such empathy is a concept that is synonymous with Gulf for Good's ethos and is reflected in the work that we do.

Check out our April news as well as current and upcoming soul-enriching charity initiatives. Even better, join us and change your life and the lives of the children in need!

Sparkle in Malawi - A Maiden Trip of a Lifetime
Last week, Gulf for Good introduced our first ever volunteering challenge. The challengers spent four days volunteering with The Sparkle Foundation in Malawi. Two activity days were included whereby the volunteers journeyed on a boat safari through Liwonde National Park and marvelled at the world-famous Malawian wildlife, in addition to a hike up Zomba Plataeu.

This maiden volunteer-focused trip was made even more special with the presence of a mother-daughter volunteer duo - Kat Kearsey, Gulf for Good Strategy and Events Director and her 8-year-old daughter Rosalie Kearsey, who became the first ever child volunteer in the history of Gulf for Good! We couldn't be more thrilled and proud of Rosalie.

Kat and Rosalie share their amazing Sparkle fundraising and volunteering experiences here, and we believe they have already inspired and paved the way for many future child volunteers. Watch this space for more volunteering challenges such as this in the near future.

Fund-A-Farm this Ramadan
The Holy month of Ramadan is upon us. This year, we humbly launch our 2022 Ramadan Campaign in support of the children under the care of The Sparkle Foundation in Malawi.

The aim of this initiative is to help The Sparkle Foundation Fund-a-Farm, a campaign which is currently running online at YallaGive.com where donations are currently being collected.

Anne Edmondson, our Chairwoman explains, “Malawi is the fourth poorest country in the world and the Sparkle Foundation’s work includes providing food for the 300 vulnerable children in their care, every day. Our key project for the year is to Fund-A-Farm for them, which will help them to reduce their operating costs and enable them to grow their own food. We aim to raise 100,000 AED to complete this project. To fulfil our promise, we are also coordinating our efforts with our sister social enterprise Thrift for Good, which was established in February 2020 with a mission to re-home preloved clothing items to reduce waste and help children around the world. Its flagship store is in the Galleria Mall on the Palm. In November 2021 a second store was opened in Times Square”.

In the spirit of giving, reflection, as well as personal growth which encapsulates Ramadan, we, the Gulf for Good family, invite you to join us in supporting the Sparkle children by helping them to establish sustainable food and learning resources through this campaign.

Discover more about this project on our website. It is a deed that not only changes the lives of these Malawian children and their community, but is spiritually rewarding for you too, knowing that you have had a positive part in effecting socio-economic change.

Charity Update:
Post Covid Back to School Delights
Chicuchas Wasi School of Girls, Peru
We at Gulf for Good are beyond thrilled to receive a wonderful update on one of our charity projects, Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls (CW) in Peru.

In response to Covid19, we sent USD 19,000 from our reserve funds plus an additional USD 1,650 from a fundraising campaign through ‘Munch On’ to provide food parcels for 126 families living in remote villages as well as learning materials so the girls could continue their studies until the school in Cusco reopens in March 2021. The school has been further able to set up an account with a local food supplier instead of shopping at the open markets which was not only safer but has resulted in 20% savings.

Two years since the pandemic hit, the Peruvian 2022 school year finally resumed on March 14th. The girls returned to school after two years of remote learning, eagerly reconnecting with their friends and classmates. In all the excitement they learn to adapt to new rules and safety protocols whilst getting used to being in each other’s company again, as some of them have acquired a new shyness after two years of isolation. The school has imposed mask-wearing, cautious gathering with appropriate social distancing as well as good hand-washing in order to maintain a Covid19-safe environment. All staff and girls aged 5 years and over are vaccinated too.

“We could never have achieved all we have the last two years without the love and support from you. We pray the Covid nightmare is over for everyone everywhere, but we realise it is not. Thank you all.” – Rae Lewis, Founder & President of Chicuchas Wasi.

Our hopes are the CW Girls will continue to thrive in their school settings notwithstanding the new Covid-centric normal as well as able to enjoy the facilities in the form of learning materials provided and sustainable food resources that have been established.

A World Record Attempt for School
On April 22nd to 24th, our Challenge Director, Sean Burgess will attempt to break the World Record for the Longest Continual Row to raise funds in partnership with Gulf for Good, for the Enjoro Primary School in Tanzania.

The World Record attempt will require Sean to row for over 51 consecutive hours on a Concept 2 indoor rower. This age-group World Record has been unbeaten in almost a decade due to extreme fatigue, physical stress and sleep deprivation endured by the athletes attempting it.

Join us in cheering Sean on on this mammoth endeavour and contribute to the Row for Good cause on YallaGive.com. Everyone is welcome to come down and support Sean during the event and/or row in solidarity with him too!

When: April 22nd - 24th
Where: Just Play Sports Complex, Al Quoz
Instagram: @seanburgess.me (for updates)

Your donations will go towards alleviating the acute shortage of classrooms faced by the Enjoro Primary School. The classroom to student ratio is currently 1:165 while the standard ratio is 1:45, with three complete and two semi-complete classrooms being shared by 824 students. In order to accommodate 824 students, Enjoro urgently requires 13 new classrooms.

Furthermore, due to acute shortage of learning and teaching infrastructure, children with SEND are the most affected. Despite their desire and right to education, they are still kept at home as classrooms are inadequate and other school infrastructures are not disability friendly.

For more information about the Enjoro Primary School and how you can help, visit our website.
