Thanks to some wonderful volunteers, we had several productive work days on our 107th home over the last two weeks. The roof trusses, all the OSB, blue board, insulation blocking, windows, doors, siding, and the roof have all been installed in just the last few weeks! The future homeowner, Shonbray Johnson, and her eldest kids have worked hard and learned so much as they help to build their home. Let's keep building!

Special thanks to one of the corporate sponsors of our 107th home, Greystar, for coming out to volunteer and install the siding on the home last Wednesday! Local support remains critical to address the unprecedented affordable housing crisis we are experiencing in Denton County. The work we do to build high-quality, affordable homes in our community would not be possible without support from local organizations like Greystar. Thank you!

Doreen Brice paid off her Habitat home!
|
Congratulations to Doreen Brice, our 42nd homeowner, for paying off her Habitat home! Her entire family, including her 5 kids who grew up in the Habitat home, came with her to our office to celebrate their mom's incredible achievement. As some of you may remember, Ms. Brice build her home alongside volunteers at 625 Smith Street in Denton back in 2002. The home was built as part of Habitat's Homeownership program and was dedicated to the Brice family in December of that year, meaning she paid off her mortgage in just 20 years! We are continually amazed by and honored to work with encouraging families like this one, thanks to YOUR support!

On Thursday, October 6, we had the privilege of celebrating our incredible volunteers and all the time and efforts they give toward building affordable homes alongside our partner families. In this past fiscal year alone, over 400 volunteers gave over 6,500 hours of their time toward building our homes! We are so grateful for all of Habitat's volunteers, but especially our Build Committee, Board of Directors, Homeownership Committee, Land Acquisition Committee, and ReStore & Ruth's Room volunteers, who all freely dedicate so much of their time each month toward furthering our mission.
Bill Stewart was awarded the Lifetime Service Award, honoring his 7+ years of service to Habitat, including 4 years as Build Committee Chair, his work on at least 12 homes, and countless hours of behind-the-scenes work to ensure our homes are built of the highest quality and efficiency. We also honored John Hoose as Board Member of the Year, Bob Pierry as Build Committee Hero of the Year, Lars Anderson as Volunteer of the Year, Glenn Miller with the Golden Hammer Award, and Glenda Rufer as Gardener of the Year.
Special thanks to the following event sponsors for helping to make this a successful celebration: Harvest House, Nothing Bundt Cakes, AutoZone, Rudy's BBQ, Lowe's, Tangerine Salon, More Fun Comics & Games, and Steve's Wine Bar.

We are raising funds to develop 8 acres of vacant land in Southeast Denton and establish a new "Habitat Village" housing development on the property. As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.
