The Principal's Corner

It is hard to believe that we have completed not only an entire school year with COVID issues but also a whole session of Extended School Year which ended on August 4, 2021.

The school staff has been extremely busy for the last week preparing for the upcoming school year with a special professional development series. All staff members received training in essential areas that make Avondale House the unique and high-quality school it is.

We launched the start of yet another new school year on August 16, 2021. The beginning of the 2021-2022 school year is not without challenges. COVID numbers are trending upwards and we continue to operate with extreme caution. The majority of our students have returned for face-to-face instruction. We have a few students who are still either totally virtual or in a combination model.

School activities are returning to more normal status as we are using the playground areas again. We have also opened up some of the community-based activities and classrooms are engaging in field trips. Some of our classes went to an Astros game a few weeks ago and are scheduled attend another game in September.

We are very excited about the upcoming school year and are looking forward to having another great adventure!

Bingo Bash Tickets Available!

Secure your table today at Bingo Bash, happening October 7, 2021 at The Junior League of Houston! The event will be hosted by local news anchor and journalist, Briana Conner of ABC13. The evening includes 7 rounds of Bingo for each guest and high-quality prizes throughout the evening. Guests will enjoy delicious food, drinks, wine pull, and a vibrant silent auction. Registration and happy hour begin at 5:30pm with the event beginning at 6:00pm. Guests are encouraged to dress according to a theme chosen by their table host. Premium sponsorship opportunities are available that provide exceptional exposure and acknowledgement leading up to, during, and after the event.

Because of support by companies and individuals in our community, we continue to improve the quality of life for those profoundly affected by autism within the Greater Houston area. Support a great cause and have fun while doing it at The 2nd Annual Bingo Bash!

Bingo Bash – Thursday, October 7, 2021
Our annual Bingo Bash is coming up and we need your help! Volunteer tasks will include greeting our guests & assisting with check in, decorating and table set up, assisting and supporting event coordinator and event committee, collecting donations, and general set-up and break down.

  • Duties include: tent set up, manage water-station, tent break down

  • 5:00am – 10:00am
  • Duties include: tent and swag set up, picture taking, and cheering on the team! Followed by tent break down and clean up.

Team Member of the Month: Peter Musili
Peter Musili is Avondale's Team Member of the Month. Peter is a long-time residential team member who has helped us meet the needs and goals of all our residents. He is an active participant in helping all clients meet their goals, as well as ensuring the homes run smoothly. He is a terrific team player and his work in the residential homes assists us in continuing to provide exceptional care to all our residents. Peter is happy to go above and beyond with a contagious smile while doing it! Congratulations to Peter!
