    Let's Talk About Water:

*75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

*37% of the time when you think you are hungry, it is because you're dehydrated and your thirst mechanism is too weak!

*Lack of water is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue!

*Water plays a role in EVERY  function in our body!

*Dehydration also increases the likelihood of soft tissue injuries such as sprain/strains. Hydrated tissues are much less likely to be injured!

Water is important to the body at all times, especially in warm weather. When you exercise, water helps keep the body from overheating. Your body gets rid of heat that your muscles generate through sweat. The evaporation of sweat cools the tissues beneath. This, however, reduces the body's water level, which affects normal bodily function.

Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration:
-Fatigue
-Loss of Appetite
-Flushed Skin
-Heat Intolerance
-Light Headedness
-Dry Cough
-Dark-Colored Urine

Signs of Dehydration in Children:
-Dry Tongue
-Sunken Eyes
-No Tears When Crying
-Dry and Wrinkled Skin
-Deep, Rapid Breathing
-Sunken Soft Spot on Infants Head
-Cool and Blotchy Hands & Feet
-Fewer than 6 wet diapers per day for infants and no wet diapers for 8 hours in toddlers.

How To Avoid Dehydration:
To avoid dehydration, active people should drink at least 16-20oz of fluid 1-2 hours before outdoor activity. For every 10-15 minutes you are outside, you should consume an additional 6-12 ounces of fluid.
Drink BEFORE you get thirsty! If you wait until after you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated!

Water is the best choice for re-hydrating. Fruit juice and fruit drinks may have too many carbohydrates, too little sodium, and may upset the stomach. Muscle cramping may be due to a deficiency of electrolytes, such as sodium and potassium. In some cases a sports drink may be effective in replenishing these electrolytes. Avoid consuming alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, tea, and colas, which promote dehydration.

One way to make sure you are properly hydrated is to check your urine. If it is clear or pale, its okay. If it is darker than that, keep on drinking!
