We invite you to join us for a
virtual convening
on June 10, during which we will discuss our legislative priorities for ensuring that Georgians receive a fair shake in response to the public health and economic crises arising from the COVID-19 emergency.
Prior to the resumption of the 2020 Legislative Session, Georgia Watch will convene a virtual discussion to outline legislative priorities we believe are crucial for Georgians feeling the economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. This is not the first time Georgia legislators have been faced with making important decisions amid an ongoing crisis. The COVID-19 emergency presents a unique opportunity to apply lessons learned from previous crises, particularly the 2008 recession. The effects of the 2008 recession lasted for a decade and are still felt in many Georgia communities today. It is important that we prioritize policies now to prevent a short-term emergency from becoming a long-term crisis for Georgians.
During this virtual discussion, we will delve into the following legislative priorities:
- Passing existing legislation to end surprise medical bills
- Supporting alternative revenue generation measures to address budget concerns
- Protecting Georgians from predatory lenders
Panelists will include Berneta Haynes (Georgia Watch), Andy Lord (Lobbyist), and Yasmin Farahi (Center for Responsible Lending).
We hope you will join us for this important discussion about how legislators can help ease the financial and healthcare burdens of Georgians during this unprecedented time.
If you have questions you would like the panelists to address, please submit them in advance to outreach@georgiawatch.org. The virtual discussion will occur on June 10 at 2pm
