Hello! I hope this finds you well and enjoying the final stretch of summertime.
We at the Hub have been gearing up for the upcoming school year and are looking forward to sharing lots of great resources and opportunities to bring STEM and CTE to life in our region. Some initiatives coming your way include:
- Partnering with our early childhood education providers for STEAM enrichment
- Bringing our rural K-8 STEM educators together for regional and statewide learning collaboratives
- Providing STEM support and professional development for our region’s out-of-school educators
- Expanding computer science and digital literacy offerings and integration for preschool through post-secondary
- Collaborating with business, industry, and educators to coordinate educator externships
...and so much more! We’ll be reaching out soon with more information and invitations to join us in this work of building a STEM and CTE ecosystem here in Linn and Benton. Stay tuned!
The Hub team and I have also had the opportunity this summer to do some trips and tours to visit excellent partner programs around the state: CTEC in Salem, the Paxton-Patterson labs at Santiam Canyon’s beautiful new middle and high school campus, and our friends with the Talent Maker City community makerspace in the city of Talent. While in Talent, we heard about the devastation of the pandemic coupled with the Alameda fires and how the community united to 3D print PPE, build beds and provide charging stations for the displaced, and care for one another with clarity, compassion, courage, and calm - as the photo at top proudly declares. Seeing these projects in person and learning about the creative ways each school and program partners to solve complex problems with STEM and CTE has inspired us all!
Thanks and be well,
Sarah Whiteside, Director

We presented our findings and shared a grant opportunity to work together to develop strategies to strengthen our regional economy and build the workforce of tomorrow. September's Social Media Support
|

Proper graphic sizes and resolutions
|
In this month’s installment of Social Media Support, we’ll be covering proper graphic sizes and resolutions. As you may already know the resolution of graphics and photos online is directly related to how nice they look at certain sizes. The higher the resolution the better your image will look at larger sizes.
A good rule of thumb when searching for an image on Google to repost is to make sure you refine your search to “large” images. You can do this by clicking the “Tools” button then going to the “Size” menu and selecting “Large”.
How to find image size on Google:
- Select your desired image by clicking on it.
- Next, let your cursor hover over the preview of the image on the right-hand side of your screen. A small black rectangle will appear in the bottom left of the image preview with a number like 1600x900.
- That number is how many pixels wide and tall your selected image is. The larger those numbers, the higher the resolution of the image.
Standard image sizes and ratios for popular social media platforms:
- Facebook standard photo post: 1.9:1 - 1200x630
- Twitter: 2:1 - 1024x512
- Instagram: 1:1 - 1080x1080
If you have a question or have a topic you'd be interested in learning more about in an upcoming newsletter, feel free to reach out!
