You might be thinking about basketball, but GCS high schools are thinking about scholarship dollars. shift_ed’s 4th annual March Madness Competition is underway with 27 schools competing for cash and prizes. But here’s the best part – every student who participates is one step closer to earning money for college.
Graduating seniors can go to shift-ed.org to apply for scholarships now, and not only are they taking a bold step to support their future, but they are also scoring points for their schools in the competition. To advance, schools must increase the percentage of graduating seniors registered for the shift_ed scholarship. After the five-week competition, the winning school will walk away with $2,000 for the counseling department and a prize for every participating senior.
This is our fun way of encouraging seniors to get a head start on paying for college. shift_ed awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships in 2021-22, and we are poised to support even more GCS graduates this year.
I have a graduating senior, and I’m not shy about sharing this opportunity with his friends and their parents. I hope you will do the same.
Here are few more things I’m sharing with my friends:
-
shift_ed moved! Our new office is at 125 South Elm St., Suite 500, directly across from the International Civil Rights Center and Museum. Stop by for the ribbon cutting and open house on March 16.
- The Mobile Innovation Lab is ready! Look for it to roll up to a school near you soon.

SEO Scholars Guilford County is officially underway. Our first cohort met for the first time last month, inspired and ready to accelerate their potential in school and in the future.
Yes, the madness is underway, and I am here for every second of it.
Boldly,
Wendy
