Syrian refugees in Lebanon
Lebanon, a country that opened their arms to Syrians' fleeing for their lives.
Camp elias in Lebanon

Over 1 Million Syrian refugees have fled to Lebanon, although the actual numbers are probably higher. Some of these people are like you and I, professionals, laborers, or scholars, that had a home, a job, and a family. Their choice to leave their country came down to life or death.

What started out as temporary has morphed into a life more permanent. Makeshift homes, sporadic work, and lack of education for their kids has become their everyday norm.

Together, For the Family is one non-profit that is working in refugee camps in Lebanon  to help Syrians. They are teaching vocational skills such as sewing and carpentry. Th ey also are assisting with maternal health, basic medical assistance, and will work with traumatized children/youth and under-privileged women. In September they will start a feeding center for children. They have asked for our help.

Lebanon needs help as it has the largest number of refugees which is putting a strain on their infrastructure. Syrian refugees need help as their basic needs are not being met. We can help!

Disaster Aid Canada has been asked to supply a number of items with Water Filtration Systems and Hygiene items being top of the list.

Malawi orphanages and a hospital

El-Shaddai Orphanage

The shipment in mid August will be to 2 orphanages. These kids have already gone through the trauma of loosing one or both of their parents and these centers have become their permanent home. Bed packs, hygiene items, Days for Girls Kits, Little Dresses for Africa, Water and Solar Lights are what we will be sending these children.

A few years ago, we send a Solar Light with the  Jolly Nyeko Foundation Canada that sponsored 60 children to go to school in Uganda. These kids did not have light in their homes and found it difficult and sometimes impossible to do their homework. But having their own Solar Light made all the difference!

This is one of my favorite pictures from that trip to Uganda. The expression on this ladies face says it all! She had never had light in her home before.

If you would like to send a Solar Light to a child in Malawi with this shipment, please make a donation of $25 and we will make sure this is sent to a one of the orphanages we are sending supplies to.

Water Filtration Systems

We, as humans, can not live without water. Dirty water, leads to illness and disease. This is completely preventable IF you have clean water. Let's provide clean water to the refugees in Lebanon and orphans in Malawi!

For a donation of $100, you can provide a Water Filtration System to Camp elias (Lebanon) or to the orphanage and/or hospital in Malawi. This system will produce 1 million gallons of clean drinkable water.  The need is present and we need your help to give these people a basic human need.

An important aspect of our international work is Hygiene

Soap saves lives. The lack of sani tation can make disease spread throughout these camps.  Providing soap will help these people stay clean and healthy in the basic livin g conditions where they are just surviving. We have also been asked to send jugs of conditioner and shower caps so that they can control the lice outbreaks.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "It is estimated that washing hands with soap and water could r educe diarrhea disease-associated deaths by up to 50%."  Your  gift of hygiene can save a life.

Along with Hygiene products (soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion) our volunteer Irene has been busy making Bed Packs. Each Bed Pack consists of a set of sheets, 2 pillowcases, a blanket, a towel, and 2 sets of slippers. All these linens have been redirected from our Caring Community Partner program with the hotels.
What will we Disaster Aid Canada send?
Water Filtration Systems
Our goal is to send 100 Water Filtration Systems. Each system can provide 1 million gallons of clean, drinkable Water. These will be used by Together, For the Family in their centers to offer clean water for those they serve. They will also be at the Orphanages and the Hospital in Malawi.

Each Water Filtration System is $100.
Soap and Hygiene Products
Disaster Aid Canada will be shipping soap and hygiene supplies to combat the disease and illness that is rampant in refugee camps. Basic supplies are often overlooked but are very important to the well being of each person. Your donation will allow us to send hygiene items and linens to help thousands of people. Each child in both orphanages will be receiving a bed pack for all their bedding.
