Let's Get Baking

Hello Bakers,

We are overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm for the Re- launch of our Flour Power Baking Program.

Last night at our CAST workshop, it was abundantly clear that so many of you are ready to get your hands into some dough after a brief winter pause.

So dust off those aprons; let's get baking & march 4th (see what we did there)

Our First bake date is this Monday March 4th.

Then next will be March 11 , at which point we will resume our regular every 2 week baking cycle.

See calendar below for schedule for all 2024 bake dates

Whether you are a new baker or one who signed up a long time ago and not yet comfortable with your baking skills, we have something fun up our apron sleeves to help you with that.

Join us Sunday March 3rd at 1 pm from your kitchens.

Get your mixing bowls, ingredients and loaf pans ready to bake along with us. Zoom link attached below for you to be able to connect with our Bread Ambassador extraordinaire Pennie Schwartz. Pennie will be baking along with all of you from her kitchen in real time so you can follow along.

And no, this is not an all-day event -- we will be making our dough together and then Pennie will tell you exactly how to let it rise in your own kitchen. Also she will be able to view your yeast proofing, ingredient measuring and be able to offer real time individualized adjustments to ensure that your loaves come out of the oven exactly as David Chaffin (our chef/ex board member who created this recipe for us) intended them to. Then Monday am after they have cooled enough, you can wrap them in the bags and drop off.

Yes the bread recipe is stable enough that even if you bake on a Sunday it is still fresh on Monday for drop off. Let your schedule dictate when you can bake -- it doesn't always have to be Monday morning if that feels rushed.

All expert bakers are welcome to join the zoom bake too. Come share your tips and feedback to the newbies who might have questions or need baking buddies.

We continue to remain thankful for all of you, our bread bakers are the heart of this program! Your time, energy, and talent are so appreciated. Food insecurity is a huge issue in our community and our community needs these loaves.

Depending on which pantry you bake the bread for (we have 4 options right now) the drop off location for each are listed below. You might notice new study coolers as our new bins. Snap a picture or two as you drop off the loaves in there. Inside you will also find bags and labels you can take home for the next bake. Don't forget to jot your name on the sign in sheet !

Let’s nourish our connections and connect our food ways together.
