Dear parents and members of the school community,
My intention is to keep the community updated on the latest relevant information in relation to Coronavirus and its significance to our school community. The message below follows the advice for communicating with parents being shared among international schools around the world. It appears that we do not have issues at the moment, but I can assure you we are continually monitoring the situation and are in good communication with the authorities and many other schools so that we can remain prepared.
At JFK we have well established protocols for the influenza season and as the checks required for coronavirus are similar, we are in an excellent position to keep our defenses up. The best we can do at this moment is to remain aware of our own, and our family’s health, and follow the usual protocols for influenza.
Most concerns I am receiving are more the result of mis-information available on social media. Please trust that the school will keep you informed openly and honestly with the best advice that we receive from the authorities, and I will share that advice by email and on our website for confirmation.
Many thanks. Lets keep our school healthy!
Please note the following current advice (February 3 2020):
- The World Health Organization provides accurate daily reports on its website of infection rates and global distributions of Coronavirus. Checking directly with this website can provide more accurate information than referencing social media sites.
- The World Health Organization has categorized this outbreak as a global health emergency. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is closely monitoring the situation. There are no special recommendations for schools in Queretaro, Mexico at the moment.
- Our school has qualified medical personnel on campus and easy access to other doctors, hospitals and emergency services in case of any emergency in relation to this virus.
- Students and staff with cold and flu-like symptoms should stay home if they don’t feel well, to check in with campus medical providers, use good hygiene, wash their hands frequently, and avoiding sharing food and drink.
- Parents suffering cold and flu-like symptoms should try to avoid coming to school or to keep their stay as brief as possible if required. Parent meetings can be rescheduled for your convenience if such symptoms exist.
- Food sharing occurs most often at the lower grade levels, while sharing drink containers occurs among the teenage middle and high school students all too often. Remind your children of basic health and cautionary practices.
- The school is not presently considering the cancellation of school events, activities or trips, although if the situation deteriorates we may well decide to do so.
