Letter from LICP President Laura Rothrock

December 2024

Dear Friends,

As I reflect on this year, I am proud of all that we accomplished at LIC Partnership and the LIC BID to help meet the diverse needs of our dynamic neighborhood. Some key highlights are listed below and more information about all of our work can be seen in our just-released annual report.

With the help of our sponsors, members, and boards of directors, this year we:

  • Shepherded the LIC BID expansion into the final stage of its 3+ year process. LICP staff is currently preparing to service the expanded BID boundaries with on-street sanitation and beautification projects beginning in January 2025.
  • Submitted the winning proposal for the NY State Downtown Revitalization Initiative award on behalf of the neighborhood. LICP served on the Local Planning Committee and looks forward to seeing the $10 million in state investment start to arrive in LIC over the next year.
  • Worked with city government and community partners to support the One LIC Neighborhood Plan, while also influencing the future of NYC’s industrial policy through advocacy and initiatives on behalf of the Industrial Business Zone. The One LIC Neighborhood Plan and the Industrial Business Survey are both soliciting community feedback which will greatly impact the future of our neighborhood. Please complete the surveys linked here and here to make sure your voice is heard.
  • Introduced 10,000+ people to 200+ local businesses and organizations through the LIC Lunar New Year Celebration, the LIC Summer of Sports, and the LIC Springs! street festival.
  • Hosted dynamic networking and thought-leadership events aimed at empowering our members, strengthening the business community, raising the profile of LIC, and forging connections among business and civic leaders working in western Queens.
  • Advocated for streetscape and public realm improvements including bike safety initiatives, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced public services to support the neighborhood’s continued growth.
  • Debuted two public art projects, Lumina Arcana and Summer of Sports, to bring light, revelry, and engagement to LIC. Both projects involved local artists and students in the design.
  • Grew our social media accounts and weekly e-newsletter to reach over 30,000+ people each week with neighborhood news, member events, and business information.

In addition to continuing and expanding upon our work with all the above in 2025, LICP also just received an REDC grant which will allow us to fund a pedestrian improvement study for Queens Plaza & Jackson Avenue. This is the first step towards creating a more safe, functional, and economically beneficial streetscape in the Queens Plaza/Court Square neighborhood.

We hope you will join us! Explore how to get more involved through membership or sponsorship, and make sure you are subscribed to our weekly e-newsletter for the latest information on neighborhood news and events.

Wishing you and your family a happy holiday season. See you in 2025!
