Racial Justice Transformation Project
Greetings in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
I greet you at the beginning of this summer season with a report about the
Eastern PA Conference Racial Justice Transformation Project (The Butterfly Project) that has been studying institutional racism in our conference for the past few months in various committee meetings and listening sessions. This study included lay and clergy members of African descent, Latino/Hispanic clergy and lay people, members of the Committee on Native American Ministries, and Korean-American clergy and Indian American clergy.
There was much pain and discouragement shared but also some hope and visioning for the future. At a culminating meeting on June 9th participants agreed that there are steps we can take right now to begin to dismantle institutional racism and to have a more equitable annual conference.
