MIYC News & Updates
APRIL 22th | 2020
Dear Member & Boaters of MIYC,

RE: THERE WILL BE A SPRING LAUNCH AND (WE EXPECT) A BOATING SEASON WITH SANITATION REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS ON SOCIAL GATHERINGS ETC.

The club has remained open under the exemption for marinas to the Wisconsin Governor's order. The shop employees work separately for the most part and the reduced crew in the store mainly handle islander's gasoline purchases made by call-in, credit card transactions without personal contact between store employee and purchaser. As of 4/13/2020 a face covering is required for customers in the store and the public is not allowed to use the restrooms until further notice. Mary reports that the staff sanitizes the counter/register area and door handles after every customer. She is sanitizing the break room 3-4 times a day.

State and Local governments are asking people to stay home for now, the Wisconsin "Safer at Home" order is in effect until May 26th. If you do come to the island, local government is advising you to stay in your second home for 14 days, self-quarantine, before going out for essential items.

MIYC is starting to launch boats in the beginning of May. MIYC service department can launch your boat, and put it in your slip. That way your boat is ready for you when it is safe to travel.

Now we expect that various stay at home and business restrictions will be modified in the near future so that after the spring launch we will be able to journey to the island to enjoy boating again. There will probably be restrictions on social gatherings and we suspect that most of our members will not want to gather in close proximity to other people except for close friends and family members.

Accordingly, the Commodore's Social usually held Memorial day weekend will be postponed or canceled altogether for this season. In addition we are looking for a later date for the June 27th annual meeting, perhaps it can be held over Labor day weekend.

But, as club members WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER and our slip fees must be paid so the club can continue to function as we expect and our employees continue to get paid as they expect. In essence our slip fees function as our club dues so it is the responsibility of each club member to pay his or her slip fees as usual.

When you come to the marina facilities, we would like you to wear a face covering until further notice, practice social distancing and adhere to the sanitation requirements we have all heard so much about. If possible you should contact shop personnel by phone rather than just wandering into the shop. If you have a specific need from the store that may have to be ordered, we encourage you to use the phone first so you avoid an unnecessary trip to the store.

Sincerely yours,

Allen Barnard
