Bonjour Jennifer,

Finally, with the help of life-saving vaccines, much of our world is beginning to return to normal. No part of the world has been left untouched by the devastating effects of COVID, least of all our special pocket of Ivory Coast. The village received only 30 vaccines and is waiting for the government to provide more. Amid the pandemic, along with the global supply chain and aid shortages that it caused, the Patricia Nau Clinic has persisted and is continuing to uphold its promise of never turning away a patient and providing unparalleled levels of care. It has been a while since we checked in, so we wanted to share some exciting updates from Braffouéby with you ahead of this upcoming holiday season.

The Patricia Nau Clinic was once again, for the 5th year in a row , awarded for its achievement of quality care, sanitation, and services by the Ministry of Health.

We have been so grateful for their ongoing support and to be able to work together on many community improvement initiatives. We are so excited to share that the World Bank has formally recognized the Patricia Nau Clinic and the excellent care provided. They invited our nurse, Théodore, and midwife Reine, to attend a special training program in Abidjan designed to build strategies and analyze performances in all areas of care at the clinic. And if they fulfill the requirements that the World Bank has outlined, then starting in January the World Bank will begin covering the cost of the salaries for the clinic staff. This is a huge step towards gaining international credibility and recognition and we look forward to further collaboration, assistance, and capacity building.

"The Patricia Nau clinic is named after, my mother,

who would have been 100 years old today!" - Patsy

We'd like to give a tremendous thank you to our incredible donors who have helped provide scholarships to Marie Laure, Blanche, Madina, and Willie. Both Marie Laure and Madina are ranked at the top of their classes and Maire Laure has already been transferred to attend the top law school in Ivory Coast. Blanche has just finished her studies and completed her internship at the French Hotel school in Abidjan. None of this would have been possible without the support of generous donors providing tuition, books, and computers. We also recently sent a box of donated clothes over to Marie Laure and Blanche which they were thrilled to receive!

By now, many of you are familiar with our extraordinary clinic director, Oscar, known throughout the community as the person to turn to in times of trouble. Oscar has never turned away a person in need, even when they arrive on his doorstep in the middle of the night. A very generous donor recently provided the resources for a new house for Oscar! The new home has electricity, water, a toilet and ample space for him to work on his numerous projects. He is currently raising organic chickens and roosters on some leased land, so that he may eventually sell the eggs and the chickens as additional revenue for the clinic. The ultimate goal is to build an agricultural school for vulnerable young women (those who have had to drop out of school due to unintended pregnancies or other circumstances), teaching them valuable skills like how to farm, raise animals, and read and write, enabling them to lead successful and independent lives.

I am extremely honored to have been elected to represent the Ivory Coast as the Fourth Vice President of the African Peace Bureau. The APB aims to organize and encourage the involvement of African nations in the International Peace Bureau and to give often underrepresented nations a voice on the international stage. Oscar has also been named the Director of Research and Environmental Affairs. We are both looking forward to being involved in such a notable cause and representing the interest of Ivorians.

In order to continue providing these excellent services and making a difference for so many Ivorians, we need your help. For the weeks leading up to Giving Tuesday, we will highlight a few different projects where we could use your ongoing support. So please be on the lookout for more stories from Braffouéby and opportunities to help ICMC!

Thank you! We need to continue making an impact. Ongoing care costs $500 per month to pay our doctors. Every bit counts as they save lives!

Sincerely,

Patsy
