Letter from SHIN JOON MOON to CANDACE OWENS

The Prostitute Who Helped God's Providence

Greetings!

This newsletter is somewhat different from previous ones in that it deals with a vicious attack on True Father Sun Myung Moon and his efforts to defend freedom by a well-known podcaster named Candace Owens, who seems to have embraced the leftist narrative that fighting against Communism in Central America in the 1980s was evil.

In her broadcast last Friday, January 9, podcaster Candace Owens charged that:

“North Korean evangelical cult leader Sun Myung Moon assisted the CIA in its so-called ‘anti-Communist’ efforts” during the Iran-Contra scandal in Central America,” and that Father “profited” from this involvement.

She went on to cite a “fantastic article” by the Washington Post in 1997 “breaking down what might be known as the Moon cult.” Following below is a letter written by Shin Joon Moon, the 3rd son of Hyung Jin Nim and Yeonah Nim.

Letter from Shin Joon Moon to Candace Owens

Hello Candace,

I didn’t expect to hear my church mentioned in your livestream on Friday (1/9/26)! I just want to say at the outset that we sincerely respect and appreciate your efforts to discuss important issues of our day. I have been genuinely praying for your protection and safety especially during the last year. With that being said, I want to respond to your comments regarding our faith.

First, I want to acknowledge your reasons for suddenly covering Father Moon in your ongoing investigation. I understand that you want to jab at Turning Point Faith by associating it with something that is considered to be “cultish.” Although I understand that this is an effective tactic to degrade credibility, as a Unificationist, I feel obligated to respond to some of the claims/implications about our church.

Why did my grandfather give non-lethal support in the 1980s to the anti-Communist rebels fighting against the Soviet-aligned Sandinista government in Nicaragua? – It is because he understood the horrific nature of Communism, having been imprisoned and tortured in a North Korean death camp for nearly three years. He and many other Koreans were liberated when UN (largely American) forces, under the leadership of General Douglas MacArthur, bombed the fertilizer factory where they were being worked to death. Father Moon often expressed gratitude to America for saving his country from totalitarianism.

So yes, because of his direct experiences, my grandfather did not want to see Communist tyranny spread in the Western hemisphere. That is why he did give humanitarian supplies like food, clothes and other non-lethal aid to the families of anti-communist Contra rebels. This is something we are proud of.

Father Moon invested significant resources from church members in Japan and Korea to America because he understood that what happens in America affects the entire world. He was seriously concerned about the decline of Christianity and the spreading immorality of American youth. He believed that the basis of a healthy society is its spiritual foundation. After all, the U.S. Declaration of Independence speaks about “God-given rights.”

Regarding the science conferences, Father Moon believed that a materialistic worldview was corroding the Christian foundations of the West. He sought to initiate serious dialogue between scientists, people of faith, and scholars to acknowledge the centrality of moral/spiritually-based values to solve real problems in our society. Indoctrination of our children by America’s educational institutions that human beings are the result of random, purposeless, materialistic forces does real damage to the spiritual life of many youth and undermines the basis of our rights.

Whether it be sponsoring science conferences, cultural organizations, anti-communism education, or Christian institutions, he strived to revitalize America’s original God-centered culture.

My grandfather also believed that religious leaders should make every effort to guide the world toward unity and peace. Given that many conflicts have religious origins, ignoring those roots has doomed many peace efforts to failure.

He vehemently opposed virtually all of the wars in the Middle East, something that his appointed heir continues to do. In his meetings with different presidents like Bush Sr., Father Moon explicitly warned him that U.S. involvement in such ventures could backfire and lead to more suffering.

Starting in 2003, Father Moon invested a large amount of resources in the Middle East Peace Initiative to bring together Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders in mutual repentance. In response, thousands of Christian clergy came to the Holy Land to meet with Jewish and Muslim clergy and to pray together for peace. On May 16, 2003, Israeli rabbis signed the "Jerusalem Declaration," which repented for the crucifixion of the "innocent Jewish young man Yeshua, whom G-d loved and... [who] "was betrayed by the rich and powerful among his own people." Father Moon’s efforts in the Middle East culminated on December 22, 2003, when religious leaders, including Jewish rabbis and Muslim imams, joined together to crown Jesus Christ as King.

These events reflect our theology which clearly states that the Jewish people of the 1st century (especially the leaders) should have listened to Christ’s calls “to believe in the one whom God has sent” (John 6:28-29) and not crucify their King.

If you are interested in hearing more about Father Moon’s accomplishments, ministry and, teachings, there is some good information at www.2ndadvent.org. You can also check out my videos on our beliefs which can be seen at www.youtube.com/@The_Advent_c2 .

As you well know, the search for truth is often difficult. My grandfather, Sun Myung Moon, was misrepresented many times. He deserves a closer look.

Sincerely,

Shin Joon Moon

Tennessee Sanctuary Pastor Regis Hanna started his sermon by reading Joshua 2:1-19, which describes the spying mission of 2 Israelites in advance of the invasion of the fortified city of Jericho, and the assistance provided by a woman named Rahab, who ran a brothel. They learned from her that inhabitants of Jericho were “faint-hearted” and fearful of an Israelite invasion even though the city was protected by 20-foot-thick walls.

Regis then spoke about the recent arrest of Nicolás Maduro, the dictator of Venezuela on January 3, on charges of drug-trafficking. January 3 is significant since other actions by the U.S. military have taken place on that date. On Jan. 3, 2020, Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, commander of the terrorist Quds Force, was assassinated. Also, the arrest of Panamanian dictator Noriega took place on January 3, 1990.

Maduro had met with a high-level Chinese delegation 3 hours before his arrest and the U.S. attack, where he is reported to have signed 600 agreements with Communist China. Iran-backed Hamas and Hezbollah cells have also been active in Venezuela generating funds for their groups through drug and arms trafficking, as well as money laundering.

Regis suggested there were similar vulnerabilities in Chinese-aligned Iran. “This is what God is doing.” The “Donroe Doctrine” harkens back to the Monroe Doctrine, but may be more akin to the Reagan Revolution, that resisted Communist forces in Central America. Some of the goals include cutting off the drug cartels and the funneling of illicit money to offshore bank accounts. Rebuilding of the gas/oil production facilities by American companies will benefit the Venezulan economy and allow a significant portion of the profits to go to the people of Venezuela, not to its corrupt dictators.

True Father was a good listener. He remembered Father taking members to a movie in Washington D.C., but then meeting a homeless person on the street and giving all his money to him. So no movie that night!

Mother Theresa said that during her 40 years of ministry in India, she only felt the presence of the Holy Spirit deeply for 6 weeks. Sometimes God expects us to act on faith even when we don’t feel His presence.

We are in a battle from the moment we get up. Challenges and choices all the time. The 2nd Gen may feel like they were signed up without a choice before they were born. They will need to make effort to discover the true meaning of this providential time in history.

Meditation is mind-body training. Conditions like fasting and cold showers can be a foundation for God to work in a new way in your life. “Take up your cross!” means doing things that are difficult for you. The fact that we are alive means we can find new ways to serve others.
