Dear Christ the King Community,
This Lent, we’ve spent a lot of time considering Christian community through the lens of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s
. In that book, Bonhoeffer writes the following:
It is by the grace of God that a congregation is permitted to gather visibly in this world to share God’s Word… The physical presence of other Christians is a source of incomparable joy and strength to the believer.
Unfortunately, in this time of COVID and social distancing, “physical presence” is a challenge, so we must find other means of exploring life together—such as worship via Internet. (Watch for more details in the days ahead!)
But what about the social aspects of church? How can we join together to talk, share, offer support, and simply enjoy one another’s presence? Let’s do it virtually—via Zoom.
Zoom is a free service that allows participants to “meet” through the Internet. Folks can log in with their camera-equipped computers and cell phones to share both audio and video, or they can call in via telephone to participate with audio only.
Starting Monday, March 23, CtK will host daily Zoom meetings that are open to all members of the congregation. Watch your e-mail tomorrow (Friday) for a message from the church office that contains a meeting invitation, log-in link (for folks who want to connect via computer), and call-in information (for those who prefer to participate via phone). Then, use the information in the e-mail to join any of the following meetings at your convenience:
Sundays: 9:30–10:00 a.m.
Interactive children’s message hosted by Pastor Caroline and Pastor Brad, with music by Chuck and Andy Trundle (focused on families, but all are welcome!)
- Mondays, 10:00–11:00 a.m.: Check-in and chat, hosted by Pastor Brad
- Tuesdays, 6:00–7:00 p.m.: Check-in and chat, hosted by Pastor Brad
- Wednesdays, 10:00–11:00 a.m.: Check-in and chat, hosted by Pastor Brad
- Thursdays, 6:00–7:00 p.m.: Check-in and chat, hosted by Pastor Brad
- Fridays, 10:00–11:00 a.m.: Check-in and chat, hosted by Pastor Brad
- Saturdays, 10:00–11:00 a.m.: Check-in and chat, hosted by Jill Harms
Drop in whenever you wish to say “hi” and see some friendly faces. You might even get to know some folks you’ve never met before!
We know the world of online meetings is new to many of us—but never fear! Assistance is available! For more information on how Zoom works, visit the company’s website at
. One especially helpful resource is the tutorial available
, which explains how to join a meeting once you have received an invitation via e-mail. (Again, invitations will go out tomorrow.) You can also call the church office (574-272-4306) with questions, Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Thank you so much for your willingness to explore this new way of “life together”—and for bearing with us as we sort out the technology!
