Dear Katherine Anne Porter School Parents and Guardians,

I have some important information to share about our school calendar. As our calendar reveals, we were scheduled to be off on Friday, April 10th, for Good Friday and that students were scheduled to also be off on Monday, April 13th, for a teacher workday.  Therefore, I wanted to let families know that I asked teachers to adjust online assignments in observance of these two scheduled holidays. Teachers will also be excused from having office hours on Friday and Monday and KAPS staff will be off as well; as a result, meals will continue Tuesday, April 14th. I would encourage students to take advantage of the four-day weekend to catch up on any assignments still due. Teachers will be using Monday to assess and plan for the continuation of our distance learning program.

That being said, we have decided to extend the temporary closure of Katherine Anne Porter School indefinitely in response to the unpredictable nature of Covid-19 and the geographic area included in our district. Serving 7 counties makes us uniquely susceptible to possible issues. This course of action is our safest, but it is also bitter sweet. We feel better about staying safe, but we miss seeing everyone on campus and miss all the KAPS activities. This situation is most concerning for seniors.

Seniors, we want you to know that we are all working at alternatives to things you may be missing this year. We are already thinking of ways to still have a prom. And Graduation is also in the planning stages. There are other activities, but I highlighted prom and graduation just to let you know we are all thinking of you and the things to which you all anticipate.  Please do not despair; we will work on all these things together for when this is over. Stay safe!

Reminders:

  • We are continuing to offer meals for pick-up and take-away at 10:00am each morning, with the exception of this coming Friday and Monday. All meals left over will be given to Wimberley’s Crisis Bread Basket daily.
  • Katherine Anne Porter School has been operating on a distance learning format online since March 25th. If you have not provided your email or started the classes provided through Google Classroom and Edgenuity, please go to our Covid-19 Link and access Dr. Flynn’s letter outlining instructions to get started and update any email contact information.
  • Please keep a student log to track remote learning at home. Download a PDF or Word document and complete the form and save as a new file OR print and scan/take a picture and email to Darlene Spencer at [email protected].
