Letter from the Superintendent
Dear KAPS Families,

Everyone is so excited to have all of our Dragons “back in the castle” on September the 8th...even if it is virtually for a few weeks! I wanted to let you know how hard the staff has been working, on the student’s behalf, these past few weeks. It may have seemed quiet and on the outside, but believe me, it has been fast and furious on the inside. As always, I want to give as much transparency as I can, so here we go:

  • The building was shut down for a week due to a possible Covid-19 exposure. It was given a deep cleaning and all is well...with the building and all of our personnel.
  • Part of our redesign plan, that is being supported by TEA, has class size parameters and that led to some reconstruction of our master schedule – ALL to the benefit of the students.
  • Lessons and learning experiences are being designed to reflect not only the state requirements but meaningful engagement for our students – all the accolades to the instructors who are working relentlessly. I am amazed at what they have accomplished for our kids, and what they keep building – truly remarkable.
  • Virtual learning days will follow the bell schedule as if we were running our normal, face-to-face academic year. This will ensure a seamless transition for student return.
  • Attendance mandates from the state are not the same as they were last Spring. All districts have certain, daily time mandates to follow. You will see a more structured and student-centered academic week than you did in the 2019-20 Spring semester.

During this time, we want to ensure that each of our students continue to have access to high-quality curriculum and assignments. As we deliver teacher-led instruction, through a virtual learning environment, we will be asking for your support to ensure the success of our efforts! Please take a moment to review our collaboration below and talk with your learner about the importance of continuing their education during this time:

  • Ensure that your learner is engaged in their Google Classroom on a daily basis, during assigned times.
  • Ensure that your child is watching any videos or recordings for each of their classes, each week, that may be part of their learning experiences.
  • Ensure that your learner is completing all required assignments and submitting these to their teacher in a timely manner.
  • Encourage your learner to reach out to their teacher if they have any questions or concerns or need any extra help!

Please know that the KAPS staff is as excited about September 8th as our families are. Student schedules are being built as we speak. You will be getting information about those soon. Your students will also be hearing from their teachers soon regarding their Google Classroom and login information for the first day!

Thank you,
Dr. Bonds
