Greetings,
I encourage you to attend the annual
Law College Association Awards Celebration, just one month away, on March 6. This event will bring our law community together to recognize the contributions of alumni
Kathy Brody ('07), Judge
Cecilia Castellanos ('72), and
Brett Dunkelman ('80).
This week we highlight the important role of your Law College Association and thank the members of our alumni and professional community who devote their time and expertise to the college by serving on the its board.
And we share news of two dynamic college initiatives that are expanding legal services and legal education to new communities: the new Licensed Legal Advocates program, created by our Innovation for Justice program and its partners, and the new Diplomado Program on Mexican Public Law and Policy in partnership with UNAM.

All Arizona Law alumni automatically become members of the University of Arizona
Law College Association (LCA) upon graduation.
The LCA has two main purposes. The first is to promote the advancement of our college by raising and managing donations to benefit Arizona Law students and programs.
The second is to keep alumni engaged with Arizona Law by sponsoring events and other opportunities to connect with the college, its students, and fellow alumni throughout the year.
Interested in getting more involved with the LCA? Have an alumnus in mind to nominate for a future award? Contact
Arlin Acosta.

New "Licensed Legal Advocates" Program Aims to Close Justice Gap for Domestic Violence Survivors, Provide New Path for Legal Support
Survivors of domestic violence in Arizona will have a new resource to support them in civil legal matters, thanks to a unique pilot program created by the Innovation for Justice Program at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in partnership with the Arizona Supreme Court and Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse. The Innovation for Justice Program is directed by Professor Stacy Butler ('02).
From fall 2020 to fall 2021, the pilot program will evaluate civil legal assistance provided by Licensed Legal Advocates. Licensed Legal Advocates are a new tier of legal professionals who are not licensed attorneys but who will be equipped to provide legal advice to domestic violence survivors with respect to critical domestic-violence-related legal issues, such as the need for a protective order, divorce, child custody, consumer protection or housing assistance.
The design and implementation of training for limited license professionals is an emerging trend, with Arizona -- and Arizona Law! -- in the lead.

If you want to join an event that celebrates our moment, respects our history, and points to the future, join us on March 6 for the LCA Awards Celebration (
RSVP).
In the careers of our distinguished graduates we see paths for our wonderful current students. And even as we celebrate individuals -- including the contributions they have made to our profession, our community, and our college -- we are reminded of the many ways in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Warmly,
|
