Dear Third and Fourth Grade Parents,

Welcome back! We are thrilled to welcome your daughters back on campus this week. The third and fourth grade faculty are preparing for your daughter’s return and look forward to sharing more about the routines and curriculum for this school year during Virtual Parent Night. There are a few updates I would like to share prior to tonight.

First, students in third and fourth grade will utilize a departmentalized schedule this school year. Although not new to fourth grade, this model will be implemented in third grade this fall. Faculty have worked diligently over the past few weeks to prepare, setting up literacy and math rich classrooms ensuring a smooth and developmentally appropriate transition for students.

I would also like to elaborate further on math curriculum updates. Before my time at Sacred Heart, I led the implementation of Singapore Math for ten years. During this time, I worked with public and private schools, and traveled to Singapore twice to work with educators from the Ministry of Education.

Through these experiences, I found the implementation model we are planning at Sacred Heart in the coming two years prepares students for the expectations of this new math curriculum. Mrs. Czerniak and Mrs. Tigert are committed to participating in on-going professional development and will introduce strategies to students throughout the year.

Finally, your daughters take part in important leadership opportunities in third and fourth grade. Please know that we are designing ways to continue such important endeavors and look forward to sharing more information in the coming months.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me at [email protected] or 504-388-6675.

Sincerely,
Shara Hammet
Preschool and Lower School Division Head
