Secretary of State Mac Warner voices continued opposition to federal takeover over state election administration
Dear Friends,
 
In February, the U.S. House of Representatives began consideration of House Resolution No. 1 (H.R. 1) that would establish federal mandates in the administration of state elections. Last week, I joined other Secretaries of State from throughout the nation in a letter to members of Congress opposing H.R. 1.
 
H.R. 1 is a dangerous overreach by the federal government into the administration of state elections. I believe that each state legislature, not the federal government, should have the freedom and flexibility to determine practices that best meet the needs of their respective states to ensure safe and secure elections.
 
Today, I am releasing a personal statement by video outlining my continued concerns with H.R. 1. I hope you will take a couple of minutes to listen to my message. 
During the pandemic of 2020, West Virginia hosted such a safe and secure election cycle that I was asked to testify before the United States Senate on the administration and deployment of West Virginia's Primary and General Elections.
 
We're doing it right here in West Virginia. Our county clerks are engaged and we are supported by our legislature and by the governor.
 
We don't need the federal government taking over state elections.
