The Board of Governors has completed its May meeting and taken actions on academic restructuring, extraordinary program review, and tuition and fees. You can find a synopsis of the Board’s actions on the SEMO News webpage, and we will review at next week’s Employee Town Hall on May 13 at 10 a.m. in Academic Auditorium.
I wanted to write today to, again, acknowledge the work it took to reach this milestone. I know it was many hours of meetings, points of data, and thoughtful consideration to develop the plan brought forth today. I appreciate your efforts and recognize this was not an easy process, but it was necessary. We must strive to align our academic offerings with workforce demands. This ensures, our academic portfolio remains relevant to employers and wanted by students.
Now, we begin the work of implementing the approved changes which include program deletions and transformations, department mergers, and creation of new schools and a Center for Aviation. We will work as efficiently as we can, and the Provost’s Office will begin communicating process and timelines in the coming weeks.
While the Board’s actions today put us closer to presenting a balanced Fiscal Year 2027 budget in June, the work continues. I know addressing the headwinds we face has brought tension and uncertainty, but I remain convinced that it will make us a stronger institution. Thank you for your continued energy, ideas, innovations, and solutions to position SEMO in a place of strength and sustainability for many generations to come.
