Baltimore Regional Housing Partnership Quarterly Newsletter
"Value in children’s health is not just about preventing disease; it’s also about giving every child the best possible shot at their best life. That means ensuring they have access to the kind of educational environment that will help them thrive, grow, and develop and ensuring they have basic needs, like safe, affordable housing and access to nutritional food at their fingertips.”
-Dr. Rachel Thornton, BRHP Board of Directors
A Message from the Executive Director
Dear Partners,

As we wrap up the third quarter of the year, I take great pride in sharing a recent accomplishment in the Baltimore Housing Mobility Program. The team at BRHP achieved a Housing Choice Voucher utilization rate of 98%, compared to a state average of 88% and a rate of 85% nationwide. That means 98% of our total voucher allocation is in use by a family leasing in the private market and reflects our best practices in administering vouchers and supporting families with credit repair, unit referrals, and security deposit assistance. I am grateful for the tenacity of my colleagues and strength and success of our core program. We will carry this momentum through the remainder of the year as we continue to maximize the number of families served in the Baltimore region.

This month we were thrilled to host U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen for a discussion around federal legislation aimed at improving the lives of families with young children and increasing access to mobility vouchers while providing counseling services, similar to BRHP’s proven method of combining client counseling with housing mobility vouchers. In September, we are holding the next BRHP in Conversation in with Dedrick Asante-Muhammad, Chief of Organizing, Policy & Equity at the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. This discussion will focus on the hurdles low-income families face on the path to homeownership and possible policy solutions. We look forward to you being a part of the conversation.

Just as we remain focused on hitting programmatic goals, we continue assisting families in achieving their goals. Some of those recent goals included giving their children a summer camp experience and starting their new school year off with backpacks full of supplies. Your support has been instrumental in the success of our organization, and thousands of families, and we appreciate the continued partnership and dedication to our shared vision.

Meet & Greet With Senator Van Hollen
We are always working to connect with industry leaders and share best practices and insight for addressing housing, economic, and racial inequities.
This month we hosted U.S. Senator, Chris Van Hollen, in our office for a discussion on housing programs and the critical role BRHP plays in the housing mobility community. Senator Van Hollen is a long-time champion of housing mobility work and affordable housing. Click below to read more about the Senator's visit.
Back to School Supply Drive
Our 2023 Back to School Supply drive is in full swing. Thanks to your donations and support, we are providing 550 stuffed bookbags to families in our program. Some bundles also include one of our favorite children's books and a pair of headphones! We appreciate all who contributed to make this a success for our young scholars.
Summer Camp Assistance
We know that summer camp fees, many of them in the hundreds of dollars, are often a barrier to our families connecting with their neighborhood. Thanks to your contributions, this year we were able to send 18 kids in our program to summer camp. Our Summer Camp Assistance Program offered families with children ages 5 to 17, up to $1000 per household for summer fun, camps, and activities.
Helping families to feel safe and make that connection is one of the primary goals of our program.

The Baltimore Regional Housing Partnership (BRHP) is a non-profit organization that expands housing choices for families with low incomes, who have historically been excluded from housing in well-resourced neighborhoods, helping them to access and transition successfully to safe, healthy, and economically vibrant communities. As the Regional Administrator for the Baltimore Housing Mobility Program, BRHP has opened pathways to a better future for low-income families for nearly 10 years.
BRHP currently provides over 4,300 low-income families rental assistance in the form of the Housing Choice Voucher and couples that with counseling supports for families as they move from areas of concentrated poverty to areas of opportunity in Baltimore City and the five surrounding counties.
