TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

Honoring Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance is internationally commemorated each year on November 20, and is a day to honor the transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming persons who are targeted and killed for living authentically and courageously. Visit our commemorative altar in the Downtown Library Makerspace through Sunday, November 23, which honors these individuals tragically lost to violence.

Also consider joining the Transgender Day of Remembrance event on Thursday, November 20 from 5:30-7:30pm at South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Center, put together by partners serving the LGBTQ community throughout the County of San Mateo. Learn more

NEWS FROM THE FOUNDATION

December 2 is Giving Tuesday, an idea created in 2012 to encourage people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity. One way to celebrate Giving Tuesday is to give to the library!

Last year, the Makerspace in the Downtown Library was used by more than 10,000 people and some materials and equipment need to be replaced. Our Makerspace Wish List allows you to purchase specific items that are needed in the Makerspace and have them delivered directly to the library.

Consider donating from the Wish List in honor of someone who inspires the Maker in you HERE

COMMUNITY CORNER

On November 22, Redwood Symphony celebrates 40 years of redefining the community orchestra experience. Founded in 1985 by Maestro Eric Kujawsky, the orchestra is known for fearless programming and artistic excellence.

This 40th Anniversary special concert features composer Mason Bates performing his Alternative Energy on electronica, alongside violinist Karen Bentley Pollick in Tchaikovsky’s beautiful Violin Concerto.

From his Grammy-winning opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs to opening the 2025-26 Metropolitan Opera season with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Bates is one of classical music’s most in-demand composers.
