Now is the time to look ahead to the new year – and new opportunities.
CHIPS Act funding is driving innovation: be ready to take advantage of that activity by mapping your technology investment path.
Your question is not just what can be done with this technology?
You will be considering what can be done at a lower total cost or what can be done now, that could not be done before?
Using a new technology can be an energy shot for your entire team.
How will you decide to go for it?
A significant share of the industry is looking into UHDI now. As you look into it, here are considerations for making your technology decisions…
1. Understand the financial implications of adopting a new technology. Consider factors such as initial investment, design complexity, and manufacturing costs. Highlight the long-term benefits. Ultimately, the value of any technology is related to the problems that it solves.
2. When you first use a new technology, stay within the pocket for success.
Newer isn’t always better for every project.
3. Understand the benefits of like and/or not-in-kind technology or existing products.
Keep an open mind. Ask questions.
4. Set goals and milestones. Define desired performance and features: Determine at the outset whether the designed part will be for a small niche market or volume production. Be sure that funding and patience are adequate.
5. Check the data.
6. Recheck the data.
7. Communicate with your customer: work out an agreement for use of newer technology that spells out the incentives for them – the real value in getting to market faster, enhanced performance, competitive advantage, etc. Be smart in your approach.
8. Overcommunicate: detailed instructions are critical in the partnership between your end user, designer, fabricator, and board assembler.
