Monday Message #3

Dear Rally Entrants, Volunteers and Sponsors,

This is the third in our series of “Monday Messages” as we count down to the 2023 Lewis & Clark Classic Rally, now less than two weeks away.  We’ll review some important items, provide some timely information, and do our best to help you prepare for the “great cars, great roads, great people and great fun” that are all in store.

If you missed them, or just need a refresher on previous Monday Messages, you can see them by clicking here:

"You Can't Miss It"

Among the special features of the event format is that we meet Friday evening at our destination lodging. Of course this year that is the Boulder Falls Inn in Lebanon, Oregon.

We'll meet in the Event Center, which is the building just north of the hotel itself. The Event Center will open at 7 p.m. for registration. There will be a cash bar inside and "bar food" (snacks) available for purchase. Our reserved parking is in the parking lot adjacent to the Event Center (basically north and west of it).

At 9 p.m. we'll make introductions and announcements, and if for any reason you can't make it, please let us know and we'll stash your registration goody bag someplace safe and get it to you later.

Rally School via Zoom

Once again this year Gregory Altman will conduct a rally school via Zoom. Two sessions are scheduled:

Tuesday evening, July 11, at 7 p.m. Pacific Time

Wednesday evening, July 12, also at 7 p.m. Pacific Time.

The instruction each evening covers Staying on Course and Staying on Time, so you need only make it to one of the sessions.

You will receive the Zoom login instructions with the next Monday Message on July 10.

And yes, there will be a test. (The test begins Saturday morning, July 15, at the Boulder Falls Inn ... )

Of great interest to
(some) navigators...

You will receive the Route Instructions

for all four rallies (and all four tours) on Friday evening when you register.

Some rallies will have more mileaged instructions than others.

There will be Supplemental Instructions.

If you don't know what I'm talking about,

consider yourself lucky and just enjoy the ride.

Name Tags

You know it's almost rally time when Registrar Renee prepares the name tags. This year you may notice that the name tags will not be color-coded by rally or tour. Since our format now includes four rallies and four tours, and since you are able to do some of each, there's no strict differentiation between rally-ers and tour-ers. This presents some interesting logistical challenges that we'll discuss Friday evening at the Inn, and remember to stay flexible. We will too!

Shakedown Miles, Study Assignment & Scrutineering

Remember those shakedown miles for your event car, and if you're in the competitive rally, remember your homework assignment of studying the rally rules, a.k.a. the "General Instructions."

Another important part of preparing your event car is inspecting it using the "Scrutineering & Registration Form" that you should have received via email several days ago. If you didn't get one, please email me (just respond to this message).

We also recommend engaging a professional to give your event car a good going over to verify its roadworthiness and safety. Time is growing short...

We'll be back next Monday with the final Monday Message with more important information, and in the meantime, contact any of these members of The Team with questions or for assistance:
