Spring Intersection Shutdown at 43rd

and Upton

Beginning in late April or early May Minneapolis’ Public Works department and Metro Transit will begin work needed at the primary intersection of Linden Hills village: 43rd and Upton. The intersection will be closed for ten weeks.

• Public Works will be replacing 200 feet of 9" clay pipe and adjacent structures to prevent sink hole in the future. The pipe is in very poor condition.
• Metro Transit will use this shutdown time to install the first of two new bus stops as needed for the new E-Line.

Sidewalks will not be impacted, so pedestrians will still be able to fully access the village. Cars should do their best to detour around this intersection during the planned work.

Three 2024 Committees

After two months of debate and discussion, the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council has decided to move forward with three 2024 committees:

Community Projects Committee

The Community Projects committee will take on small, board-run projects and events. Community members are encouraged to submit ideas to the committee by filling out this project proposal form. 

• You are invited to attend he next committee meeting on Tuesday, February 20.

Events Committee

The Events committee will plan the council’s two largest events: The Taste of Linden Hills and the Linden Hills Fall Festival. The committee is now planning for the Taste of Linden Hills, scheduled for May 21st! 

• You are invited to attend the next committee meeting, Thursday, Feb 22nd.

Zoning and Housing Committee

The Zoning and Housing committee will review variance requests from homeowners and investigate other zoning-related issues for discussion in the community. 

• You are invited to attend the next committee meeting on Monday, March 11th.

All meetings are held at the Linden Hills Rec Center (3100 W 43rd St.). Please note, meetings may be canceled if no business comes to the committee that month. Check the above links to ensure the meeting you have planned to attend is going on as scheduled.

Taste of Linden Hills: Tuesday, May 21st

This fun, upscale evening celebrates all of the amazing restaurants we have here in Linden Hills – while raising money for grants and other LHiNC-sponsored activities. Guests will experience delicious food and drinks, and dance the night away to

 live music. The event is generously hosted at the St. Thomas the Apostle gymnasium (2914 W 44th St,).

Linden Hills Garage Sale: Saturday, May 11th

Deal hunters love to converge upon Linden Hills for the neighborhood’s annual, organized garage sale. Typically, more than 70 households participate, making it a day for great finds and community building. Stay tuned for sign-up and registration details.

Peg Meier, longtime and award-winning reporter for the StarTribune, will talk about the recently released new edition of her beloved book Bring Warm Clothes: Letters and Photos from Minnesota’s Past. She uses vintage photographs, newspaper clippings, letters, as well as excerpts from secret diaries and personal journals, to give us a firsthand account of life in those early, challenging days.

Local Activities for Adults

The Neighborhood Choir

Register to join the Neighborhood Choir, which meets weekly on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. at The Friends Meetinghouse (4401 York Ave. S.) The next rehearsal is Feb 22nd and a Friends and Family concert will be held in May. The group sings all kinds of choral pieces and prides themselves on being a laid-back, fun-loving crew. No auditions are required, and the choir is for adults only.

Southwest Community Education Classes

Adults 55 and older are invited to join one of two (or both) of the upcoming classes from Minneapolis Community Ed:

• Move2Music: Moving to Heal, at Pershing Park (3523 W 48th St) on Mondays at 1 p.m. Classes begin February 26.
• Gentle Yoga 1 at Linden Hills Park (3100 W 43rd St.) on Wednesdays at 3:30. Classes begin March 6.

Summer Camp Registration

Parents of school-aged kids can look into these resources and ideas as they try to keep their kiddos busy this summer. 

• Minneapolis Kids is a full-time care option available through Minneapolis Community Ed. The K-4 program is run at Lake Harriet Lower Campus (4030 Chowen Ave S); the 5-7 program is at Armatage (2501 W 56th St.) Signups began February 16, you can apply here.

• Southwest Super Summer, also available through Minneapolis Community Ed, offers three-hour (half-day) camps for kids, each centered around a different theme. This year’s program will include some old favorites, including Bubbles & Silly Goo and Red Cross Babysitting – plus new offerings like Lip Sync Dance Battle, and Make Your Own Country. Registration opens on February 25 at 5pm.

• Summer Scholars, via Mpls Community Ed, is an immersive and innovative option that doesn’t look anything like the “summer school” you remember as a kid. Options for K-12 are listed here.

• In addition, Camperoni is a free-to-use website that aggregates summer camp options and allows you to explore offerings across the Twin Cities metro by location, date or age.

Enter the Tree Lottery Today

Are you looking to spruce up your yard this spring for a low price?

• Enter the City Tree Lottery by March 31 for a chance to get up to two $30 trees!
• The Minneapolis Health Department is partnering with Tree Trust to offer 1,000 low-cost shade and evergreen trees to help build the city’s tree canopy. The trees range from 3 feet to 8 feet, depending on the type of tree.

All Minneapolis property owners can enter the lottery. If selected, you’ll get an email in April with information on how to order your tree(s). Trees must be picked up on either May 18 or 19.
