Start going through your old cast-offs so you can have them ready to sell on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. All registrants will be included on the official map of the sale, and in promotions for the event on social media, LHiNC web site and local news sites.

No yard or garage? No problem

Renters and condo-dwellers need not miss out on the resale fun. For the first time ever, LHiNC is sponsoring a Garage Sale group location for people who live in multi-unit buildings. For just $5, you can set up your table at Linden Hills Park during the Neighborhood Garage Sale. You’ll be responsible for set-up, taking care of your items, money-handling and clean-up, just as you would be in a private yard. Share a table with a friend or neighbor or load it up with the things you don’t need anymore, but someone else just might!

Register now to be included in one of the largest neighborhood garage sales in the state. 

LHiNC Spring Grant Cycle Open

Every fall and spring, the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council awards grants of up to $1000, to people, projects and programs that make Linden Hills a better place to live and work. In the past, we’ve funded accessible trolley rides with ASL interpreters, books for school libraries, neighborhood sports teams, activity groups, and many local musical acts. 

Don’t miss your chance to be considered for one of these neighborhood grants. Apply through this form no later than 11:59 p.m. on April 1, 2024. Late submissions cannot be considered. Get more information on the application process and timeline here.

Local Neighborhood Organizations Investing

in Affordable Housing

Seven South Minneapolis neighborhood associations, including the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council, have joined together to invest $250,000 in Opportunity Crossing, a mixed-use development including 110 units of deeply affordable housing located at Lake St. and Nicollet Ave.

Led by the Lyndale Neighborhood Association, organizations from Armatage, Fulton, Kingfield, Linden Hills, West Maka Ska and Whittier banded together to use some of their legacy housing funding from the city to make their investment. Read more here.

Linden Hills Blood Drive

The American Red Cross is reporting the lowest number of blood donors in more than 20 years, leading to an emergency blood shortage across the country. To help answer this need, LHiNC

will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Friday, April 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Linden Hills Rec Center (3100 W 43rd St). For more information or to make an appointment to donate, sign up here. To volunteer at the check-in desk, sign up here.

The blood drive, led by LHiNC board member Noe Abrams, is the first event to come out of LHiNC’s brand-new Community Projects committee. 

Music in the Chapel at Lakewood

Lakewood Announces 2024 “Music in the Chapel” Concert Series Lineup

Visitors can experience an array of intimate performances in the historic Lakewood Memorial Chapel. Concerts run monthly on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and feature a variety of local musicians. Read more.

The series kicks off on Sunday, April 7 with master guzheng (Chinese zither) artist Jarrelle Barton, promising an unforgettable afternoon that sets the tone for a year of musical exploration in one of the most breathtaking and intimate spaces in the city, the Lakewood Memorial Chapel. Meet Picnic

For the neighbors who have been eagerly awaiting a single space that will serve lunchtime sandwiches, hearty dinner options like lasagna, and delectable cocktails past 9:00 p.m., your time has come. Kitchen Pantry Scientist

Date: Saturday, March 30 - 11:00 a.m. Liz will bring her new book: She Can STEM: 50 Trailblazing Women in Science from Ancient History to Today. This book includes fun experiments kids can do at home as they learn about the women who were trailblazers in their fields that helped change the world to what we know it to be today.

Liz will talk about these innovators and their impact, as well as demonstrate a little science right before your eyes as she leads you through some experiments. A perfect way to top off Women's History Month. Read more.

Library Events for Everyone

Cozy Knit Accessories, Saturday, March 23, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. Learn the basics of knitting and use your newfound skills to create a cozy scarf. Using colorful, chunky yarn and a set of knitting needles, you’ll learn to cast on, purl, knit, and cast off in confidence. Materials provided. Collaborator: Textile Center. This program is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Grades 6-12, registration required.

Lake Harriet Environment Council News

Southwest Minneapolis neighbors have formed a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to restoring, protecting and enhancing the natural environment and facilities around Lake Harriet. Blue Thumb Resilient Yards Workshops Open

Blue Thumb workshops are an opportunity for Minnesotans to learn how to plant for pollinators and clean water, even if you’re a first-time gardener.
