July is Park and Recreation Month!

Every July, National Recreation and Park Association helps us celebrate the importance of parks in the community.

Parks are at the center of so many experiences and memories — moments that park and recreation professionals help make happen. Parks are places to gather with friends and family, spaces to celebrate life’s special moments, spots of respite and healing, sites that connect us with essential community services, and so much more.

Liberty Parks & Rec has been essential throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with many of our community members finding a new appreciation for our parks and open spaces.

This year’s theme for Park and Recreation Month is “Our Park and Recreation Story,” and we want to highlight the stories of how our communities is stronger, more vibrant and more resilient because of parks and recreation. Stay tuned throughout the month for features on programs, activities and parks that tell #OurParkAndRecStory.

"In outdoor parks and recreation spaces, shade can prolong your time outdoors and allow children to play longer, keep equipment cool to the touch, and provide protection from harmful UV rays. Additionally, a shaded space can have temperature reductions of up to 25 degrees — now that's cool! "

The Liberty Parks & Rec Foundation (LPRF) is currently raising funds to purchase shade structures at Capitol Federal® Sports Complex for the baseball and softball fields. The LPRF is committed to supporting the continued improvement of our Liberty parks, including our playgrounds, trails, and our healthy play spaces.

The 2021 LPRF Annual Campaign is underway and has raised $22,975 towards the foundation's $80,000 goal.
The LPRF Annual Campaign allows for the development and implementation of highly desirable programs and projects that would otherwise be beyond the scope of traditional funding sources.

In addition to funding for scholarships, the 2021 annual campaign, is focused on providing shade structures at the Capitol Federal® Sports Complex of Liberty baseball and softball fields and a multi-use trail at Ruth Moore Park.
Celebrating 25 years!

Join us in congratulating Aquatics Manager Charles Anderson and Parks Crew Chief Tom Shadid on 25 years working with Liberty Parks & Rec. Charles technically has 26 but we did not get to recognize him last year.

Both are vital contributors to the success of LPR with Tom keeping the parks safe, clean and updated while Charles continues to provide opportunities for swim lessons and summer fun in the outdoor pool.

Thank you for all the hard work and dedication over the years. If you see these two out and about, be sure to congratulate them in person.

Welcome Baby Kai!

More congratulations are in order for Community Services Manager, Hailey Kellerstrass and her husband, who welcomed their baby boy in June.

Hailey says "Mommy and daddy are pretty smitten with our son aka Buddy Bop aka Butterball. We've appreciated all of the love, prayers and positive vibes you've sent our way over the past year. It's still hard for me to believe we've been given someone so perfectly perfect in every last way"

Congratulations to the Kellerstrass family!
